Cable from Tach to Engine

On my 1977 CB 750 the cable from the Tach to my Engine has a hole in it and leaks oil where it connects to the engine. Is there oil in it?

Hi.There may be a small amount of oil or grease in cable housing for lubrication.A continueing leak is likely from a leaking seal at tach drive housing behind cable. Rock On

Yes, if the seal in the valve cover is bad you can get engine oil in the cable but you should also see oil around the cable end where it goes into the valve cover.

You can still get that seal from Honda and it is pretty inexpensive. There is info in the FAQ about removing the old seal and installing the new one. Not a bad job at all.
