72 CB500 - OIL STRAINER QUESTION
« on: March 06, 2010, 12:31:23 AM »
Hi
My oil strainer body is a nice snug 'pushfit' in its boss, but the fit is not tight enough to hold the body full 'home' in the boss - ie the fit is lose enough to allow the strainer body to drop down, at which point the feet at the base of the body will make contact with the inner face of the sump bowl.

Is this correct - or should the fit be tighter 'interference fit', holding the strainer firmly home?

If it should be a tight fit, could I use a gasket cement or similar compound to hold the strainer firmly 'home'?

I'm just thinking if the strainer body feet make contact with the sump bowl I'm going to get a rattle when the motor's running (albeit muffled by the oil in the sump).

Anyone set me straight on this? Thanks so much.

Chris

Cheers Bryan

Well even if it does, I figure it'll be drowned out by the primary and cam chains! :D
