Topic: New shoes don't fit

I put my new rear shoes on the plate, went to slide on to the rim and it would not go on as if the linings on the shoes are too thick? What the heck!? Shoes are a perfect match for ones that came off. Ordered and double checked that they are for a '70 cb750 which the same shoes fit multiple year models.

have you considered the shoes are defective??

Seems to me that I remember having that problem on a car years ago.  I forget what I did, but basically I squeezed the shoes in tighter so the drum would go over them, and everything worked fine afterward.

I had the same problem but on a Honda 200 Big Red 3 wheeler the drum might have a lot of rust in it or like in my case on the 3 wheeler rust drum wear and some of the lineing's come off stuck to the drum and the dust and rust made it look like the lineing's wer too big. wire brush on a grinder and sandpapier fixed myne.

Especially on a car the drum wear and the rust and brake dust will make a ridge on the outside of the drum that will make this problem cause it comes off with old shoe's because their wore down but won't go on with thicker ones again wire brush on a grinder work's best.

That must be it. I just went out and looked at it again and there is ridge.

i like to start with the wire brush on grinder is best but paint scrapeing type will work too then finish up with course grit sandpapier

Thanks. I hit it witih course sandpaper to knock the glaze off the drum but obviously not enough to take out the lip.

I"ll take a brush to it...will have to wait until next weeknd....Thanks again for the help.
