« on: March 08, 2010, 03:15:42 PM »
Stopping by to say hi.

Recently purchased a '76 CB750 and couldnt be happier. Now I just need to replace the broken and missing side covers :)

Picture from a local meet this weekend.

hope to stick around for a while. if anyone can help sourcing reproduction side covers that would be great.

Depending on the damage may be cheaper to "plastic weld" and repaint. I'll get you links if interested.

there are quite a few cracks, to the point I would assume it would end up inn two pieces next time I take it off, and the right side is missing.

i would greatly appreciate the the links

Broken piece

Finished piece

The black repair was done 10 years ago by a "welder" in Chicago who's not doing it anymore. It held up well.

Rather than trying to adhere a patch over the crack, fiberglass, etc, which many have done very well admittedly, welding chemically fuses the crack back together.

Can't tell in pic, but its smooth as baby's butt, ready to paint as advertised.

I spoke with Owen at the link I provided, the plastic welder. He told me that over time the sidecovers will outgas the chemicals that make the sidecovers flexible. Mine is hard as a rock. It may break again I fear. I'll have to be careful.

If not maintaining the absolute original parts, maybe getting replicas may be better than welding on this count.
