A comment I make during nearly every project.  "There isn't quite anything that can rival the smell of 40 year old fork (fish) oil"..... The lowers will clean up nicely also.......

Brake clean took most of it off, just plain old oily grime......

Not a good day today.  I started to bolt the front end back up and hit a major issue when trying to set the front wheel.  It would not fit in the fork bottoms, the axle set up was too wide.  I checked and re-checked the wheel assembly and it was spot on.  I ended up pulling the forks back out and the worst case scenario was true when you put a level on them, they are wrapped.  When I brought the bike home someone had lowered the front end by sliding the triple tree down the tubes and this may have contributed to the issue, but who knows.  Of course I did not check them when they were out for the overall.  A new set of tubes are on order, probably a good thing, I need a break from the heat.  The garage today was an inferno with extremely high humidity and I am wiped out. Yes I did curse a little, it seemed to help......

I got fooled by one too. The guy rotated the tubes so the wheel assembly fit, but they were both bent! Live and learn!

I agree, the tops were pretty rusty and I had treated them with Naval Jelly and paint, but the new ones will shine.  I also ordered two new piston damper rings, hopefully everything will arrive at the same time.  I really believe the man upstairs makes things happen for a reason.

We rode today.  The bike runs great, I still have to touch up here and there, find a couple mirrors, put the kicker back on, but just about done.  Overall very pleased, will start the "HASSLE" of posting it for sale in the next week or so.  Love building but damn I hate selling.....

It is really not all that loud, all four pipes have a baffle.  A little throaty, but not obnoxious......

Yeah, it would be months before they listed it, putting it in a lower price of late year selling, not ideal. If it listed in spring it tends to be sweet spot... In another 2 months things start to slow down on better prices.
