Newbie ... needs help CB350F problems
« on: March 09, 2010, 03:19:19 PM »
The bike has been seating for about 3 months (NJ winter) and  the other day I charged the battery and try to get it started and its starting just fine but it will not  idle at all with out the choke. Also if I try to give it gas it dies (floods) imidietly.

Any help or suggestions greatly appreciated..

Most likely the slow jets in the carbs are plugged.  It is VERY difficult to get the float bowls off and the jets out with the carbs in place.  Some will claim its possible, but in the long run its probably easier to pull the carbs off the bike, get them on a bench and give them a good cleaning.

If they are very lightly plugged, you might have success draining the float bowls and re-filling with Seafoam carb cleaner, then letting them soak for several days.

Agree with the carb cleaning.

Each circuit in each carb needs to be cleaned with surgical cleanliness and much attention to detail.

It is not easy work, but it is time consuming, and rewarding.

I agree pull the carbs and clean the jets. No need to break the carbs apart. Most likely just dirty jets.

I cant get the link to work but if you search my name (fasturd) I did a tech tip on an easy way to remove 400F carbs and I think it would apply to a 350F too.

There is a rebuild section on my "project 13" thread too.

Its not that hard, good luck.

I would also suggest the same, carb clean. Those cb350/cb400 carbs are a pain if you let the bike set. They seem to get dirty at a drop of a hat. Check your screen in your petcock as well. Make sure gunk isn't getting through. I run a secondary fuel filter (even though that seems to be a hot issue here) and my carbs have stay'd pretty darn good since. Also even if you can't ride the bike in the winter start it every other week and you should be golden.

Carbs removed and professionally cleaned and balanced thanks to fasturd's how to instructions, just got them back on the bike and I got the same thing happening. The bike starts just fine and revs up with the chock on but it will not run at all with out the choke. Also after trying for a while I hot massive flooding and gas coming out of the carb hoses.  what could be wrong?

Any suggestions appreciated..

Are you sure that the choke is totally closing?  I had a similar problem only to find out that the choke lever was closing two chokes but the other two were staying open.  Gas was pouring out of everywhere.
