has anyone here shipped a header and megaphone before? i know i need to seperate them before shipping but i'm wondering who might be the best company to use to ship a kerker and it's megaphone. going from south carolina to ohio.

   I bought a NOS Kerker header a few months ago on feebay. The seller was 20-30 miles from me but wouldn't let me pick it up. Having such a gem shipped by a seller unknown to me had me cringing. It arrived unharmed but I think luck had a lot to do with it. They simply put it in a cardboard box big enough to hold it and glued foam to the sides of the box to sort of lock it in. It was shipped through FedEx but after all of my dealings with various shippers I think that it's really just one big crap shoot. They all seem to have their ups and downs as far as being able to deliver undamaged goods as well as their response to dealing with damages. I have no idea who is perceived to be on top right now...

   The best advice I can give you is pack it WAY better than it has to be, insure it for what it's worth and use the shipper that's most convenient for you.

my shipping lady hear in sf advised me that the first thing a fedex package does in the sf sorting facility is make a 14' drop from sort to appropiate bin... ups is only a 10' drop. i dont know how true this is as she is a little crazy, but not worth ther risk to me...

ups ground is the way to go at 35 dollars (for the farthest point from me in the usa)

i shipped a 4-4 through UPS. had to make my own box out of two boxes. i want to say it cost around $60 for Ground.

would have cost me 24.75 to go to wisconsin.........or was it michigan not much with ups ground though. but since the sale didnt go through i'm not worried about it  >:(  i really need to get this kerker sold, or maybe i'll find an old Monza or Ansa tip like you used to see on sportscars and put one of those, or another single outlet resonator.

Did you ever consider the possibility the seller makes $65/hour so
it would have cost him more to deliever it to you?  ;D

UPS and Fed Ex are way aggro.  I now use USPS.  In extreme cases, I've shipped by Greyhound- but the recipient needs to pick it up at the nearest station.

When I checked USPS for a Royal Enfield muffler (aka "bazooka") and header (packed seperately), I think the total added up to around $30 +/-.

Hi volume sellers do/did make money and value their time.

 And some folks dont like strangers in their home.

 Yeah he coulda met , but it does take time..
 But.. that probably not why he didnt..

 Its probably a few flakey buyers before you could not pull it together to meet on time and save themselves some money.. ::)

 And then the seller thought.. if you bid on ebay , you expect to pay shipping, and he can pack it easier than driving to meet someone.

 Ever run an ad lately.. I had a woman phone about a bike and arrange a time, then near the hour cancel.. then try for the next day, but not show up.. ::).. never heard back... >:(

 I try to give em a 1/2 hour window, if they cant make it..their loss..

 Hey, I am starting to remember why I stopped selling on ebay, or hardly try to sell stuff anymore..

i sell and trade on craigslist about weekly (it keeps me busy and the "horse trading" keeps my brain sharp) and 2 out of every 5 meetings dont happen.

   What? I'm not sure who you're talking to Michel. Are you talkin' to me? I don't see anyone else around, you must be talkin' to me.  ;) ;D ;D ;D If you're not talking to me then I won't have to take some time to drive up to the "Tourist Section" of Vermont and force you to drink beer with me.  ;) In that case, we both lose.  :'(

   From what the seller was selling in general I'd be willing to guarantee that #1. They weren't making any $65 an hour and #2. It was going to cost ME money to go pick it up. I never asked the seller to deliver. I just wanted to pick it up so that it wasn't damaged in transit.

   And for what it's worth 754 a friend of mine has been selling audio equipment on feebay for years...just about since it's inception. He encourages local winners...New England...of his auctions to pick up at his house. He is also willing to drive hundreds of miles to deliver certain items...mostly large speakers...so that they don't have to suffer the consequences of shipping.

I know some people dont mind, maybe even the majority, but some dont like it..

 The TOS is the rule on ebay, and if it states no pickups, then they usually mean it. and you are bound by the terms.  (which does not mean a mutually agreed change cannot happen)

 If I thought I may want to pick it up I would email and ask during the auction.

   That's exactly what I did and even though they said no pick ups I bid anyway because I wanted it. It just bugged me that I was so close but had to risk shipping a perfect NOS Kerker header. To the sellers credit they did reduce their stated shipping charge because I was so close. They were also very nice to deal with...
