CB500 Brown wire?
« on: March 20, 2010, 07:44:26 AM »
There is a plain brown wire with nothing connected to it inside my headlight with the rest of the wiring harness and I can figure out what its for. Its a '71 cb500 four. Any ideas?

I think the brown wire is for the tail light.  Download the manual to make sure.  I can check when I get home but am fairly sure it the taillight.

Plain brown would go to the tail-light, but is only 'hot' when key is in 'park' position...... should connect to a brown from the ign. switch.....
If your sure it's a carb problem; it's ignition,

Models for other areas (like Europe) than yours have an extra 4W position light fitted in the headlight reflector. We can switch between 4 Watts position light, 55 Watts or 60 Watts High Beam. The little position light also comes on in Parkmode, together with the taillight. It's just that Honda didn't think it was worth the trouble of making a different wire harnass.
