Will 750 spokes fit a 550 rim/hub?
« on: September 30, 2009, 08:45:17 PM »
The spokes posted on www.partsnmore.com say they are for a 750. Some people have recommended these as an inexpensive replacement.

Do the hub dimensions differ from the 550 hubs and the 750 hubs? Might I need to shorten the spokes a little bit to fit front and rear? Can they be used at all for a stock 550?

Thanks for any insight.

I also noticed this ebay auction: Ebay Spoke Auction

That auction says spoke set for CB750F and CB550 for the rear...I guess they ARE the same sizes? Gordon provided me with a little insight telling me the 750 hub is larger, so the spokes would be shorter. Is this true?

I wonder if the guy selling those spokes in that auction knows something we dont lol...

if you shorten the spokes, you will have to re-roll more thread onto them..

They may bolt on to a 19.5 inch rim... ;)

Damn why can't this be easier. So nobody knows of where to order inexpensive spokes from? I guess re-rolling more thread can't be THAT difficult. Just more #$%* that needs to be done on top of everything  :D

How low of a price are you looking for?  A full set (front and rear) from DSS is $70.  That's only ten bucks more than the spokes you were looking at on Partsnmore.com.

I have a 750F rear disk brake hub going on my 550 build.  It is the exact same diameter as the 550 hub.

If you don't have a thread roller its impossible.
 It's NOT a cut thread.
Size I measured for original CB550/750 is 1/8"  WHITWORTH (which surprised the hell out of me)
Its  40 tpi, 55 degree thread angle.
Anyone got a 1/8" Whitworth die they want to donate?
Was going to buy one but its $32.00 from UK, just to cut up and make chaser, sorry, ain't happening
(I was going to try and make a thread rolling tool based on bicycle thread roller)

Do they have a website I can look at?

That's what I like to hear. So the hub is the same. I guess even the spokes advertised for the 750 will fit the 550. Which is what I figured. Even on Buchanan's website, they have spoke sets for our CB that say: HONDA CB450-1000.

I just bought spoked for my 500 from DSS and for the front wheel the spoke length is the exact same for the 750 as it is for the 500/550.

Would a Motogrid search clear this up. The spoke part numbers would be the same if they were interchangeable

Jag, the front spokes and hub are the same part # for 500 & 750, so yes the same.
