I'd like to see added functionality on performance mods too. There are plenty of great posts on here, but they can be hard to find even with the great search tool. I'm in favor of a post that points out benefits and detriments for mods, including real world results. Sort of an engineering section that does not discriminate between bikes as long as the mod is applicable to SOHC4s.
Consider something like the FAQs page. A numbered list of modifications could be linked to sections below that explain the mod. That way, a builder can get ideas and information. without having to read through hundreds of posts, and missing posts that don't come up in the search.
The modifications list can be added to, and the sections can be expanded as more info becomes available. It would have to be moderated according to set rules to keep it sensible, but it shouldn't take too much work. I think Maaseyracer would be a great candidate for moderator. ;-)
Example:
1) Lighten crankshaft
1 Benefits) Faster engine response above XXX rpm, lighter overall weight, increased engine braking, etc.
1 Detriments) Poor low rpm idle, faster engine response rate hinders city driveability, etc.
1 Considerations) Works well with x, y, z modifications. Cost ($range), max of X.X lbs recommended material removal for daily driver and X.X lbs recommended material removal for track use. Crankshaft profile should follow yyy form and shops with proven success are: bob's, dave's, bart's.
Posts are only allowed from completed projects, and must include pics. If it isn't a SOHC4, but the concept could be applied to a SOHC4, then I think it should qualify for the section. There are plenty of existing posts that could be summarized in a section like this already.
