XS650 Front end
« on: April 01, 2005, 08:42:58 PM »
Im going the put a XS650 yamaha front end on my CB550. It is supposed to have better dampening and much better braking. Duel disc behind the fork legs. Has anyone else done this swap. How did it work out for you.

I'd love to hear how it works out, i've been considering a front end swap from a modern bike, like Tim shutters did to his 78 750F.   check this one out!   http://www.inct.net/~rob_eberle/tims_other1.htm
but I haven't decided how to proceed.

Daaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaamn. Very well done "T". Tim has great taste!!!!! The bike looks like it came that way. I typically don't care for modern stuff on my old bikes but that is a fine looking machine, even w/out the road warrior flat black paint. Daaaaaamn NICE WORK!!!
If you must update, don't use tha gay looking mags with the curved spokes. They (yammi) did have some that can pass for vintage aftermarket  pieces that were fitted to Hondas. Morris comes to mind but I forget the "real" big name.

I also fell in love with Tim's '78 SS.  I haven't had any luck getting ahold of him yet, but I'm still trying.  Anyhoo, I've been looking into swapping out the stock forks on my '76 CB750, and have looked at a few others...

My buddy is taking the stock forks off of his '03 Suzuki SV650 to get GSXR forks, and I might buy 'm and swap them out with mine.  Not too sure about headset issues, but I have access to a pretty sweet machine shop, so we'll see.

CBR forks would be fairly simple to swap over.  Plus, it's still honda stuff ;)

p.s.  Let me know if anyones reaches Shutters.
I need help moving my project bike from Wisconsin to Seattle, WA.  Willing to pay well.  Contact if interested.
