76 550 idle?
« on: March 11, 2010, 07:51:00 PM »
Hey, what should my 76 550F idle at? i'm having a tough time getting it to hold a steady idle, it'll be too low, then too high, or seem just right, then when i come to a stop it will stay high and not drop off fast enough with throttle closed...?

Book says 950 - 1050 RPM.  I usually set mine for 1100, though.
Make sure you have a 550 tach, not a 750 tach.

If it is wandering, a complete tuneup is indicated first and probably a carb vacuum sync.

Of course, we all assume your bike is totally stock, since you indicated no change from when Honda first sold the bike.
