Dual disc for 77/78 750 K stock forks?
« on: March 11, 2010, 06:58:30 PM »
This came to my attention last night  from Old scrambler.. :o

It had never occured to me that those forks may not tyake dual disc, other than that problem, I think they are the best to use on the K's.

So I checked mine last night, full mounts on only one leg.. >:(
 That is a 77 fork.
So is it true you cant run dual disc using Honda parts and the long 77/78 legs ?

 I think I have a solution..

I found out that 76 A has dual mounts.. probably all A's Also I believe it may be same fork  assembly as 76 and maybe 75 750  F.
All that I mentioned are plated all the way up to top if you want to run the tubes uncovered.
So it appears some 77/78 K do not have dual mounts, but I have not  seen  that, from what I remember..

pretty sure my 77K legs have all the tabs for a disk set up on both legs. And yes are about an inch longer than the earlier K bikes. I was wondering if this is an obvious upgrade in strength over the earlier ones?

Better wear and stiffness capabilty as load is spread over longer distance. Other advantage is, easier to find a fork brace.

Plus the tubes are plated full length.

Thats what I thought. Easier to find a fork brace? How so, is it a different brace than the earlier ones? I noticed the tubes being much nicer condition than my earlier forks so that makes sense as well.

I had an adapter made for the speedo drive and follow anubis instructions for dual disc.  I have done 4 '77 and 78 K bikes, all with mounts on both fork legs.  my suggestion is if for some screwball reason you have a set with just one leg with mounts to grab another set off of ebay.  bonosdad polishes them and puts a set up about every other week and he is a trusted source for parts.

Oh wow, that looks good, jaym. I am just now trying to assimilate all of the info about dual disc swaps, there's a lot to compile. Just this little thread has been super helpful, though. My K8 does have the ears/tabs for brakes, and looking at it, seems like it should be quite easy to complete with the rest of the info here about the speedo mod etc.

Thanks for the pics.

Frank, not sure why yours doesn't have mounting lugs on both legs. 77/78 CB550 same as the 750 part... another option.

I have a 78K and there are mounts on both fork bottoms. Some PO may have replaced your with an earlier year part.

Earlier lower fork legs are shorter..  I am not needing a leg, have other forks Even a 78 550 set, but I suspect they are shorter...

I see several bits of evidence that there were at least 2 sets of parts on certain aspects of the 77/78 K's.

I am not sure what the numbers were on this 77 bike, I bought it after it endoed in 81 I think, and very little of it is left..
