Nice find, covers are available.

What are you doing to prep the motor for turning over?

re: starting - I started a thread yesterday and received some excellent suggestions. plenty to do before i hear it run. i discovered today that the petcock was set on reserve so that means that there has been standing gas in the carbs since 1981 - fun!

i am very new to CB750 what model year side covers will be correct? - i assume i will have to paint. will any K model side cover fit???

Any from 1972 to 76 will fit, Same cover, different badges. I think 73 to 76 all had the same badges.

Almost all are cracked, particularly left side.  Most can be repaired with MEK welding.

The paint is unusual in that it is a candy apple red applied over a silver base.

Here is a guy in West Virginia I have been wanting to talk to:

Don't dismiss the luggage rack too quickly. ;D  If you plan on any road trips it will come in very handy.  I have two vintage racks but they are usually only put on for a road trip as they come on and off in minutes.  I have done several long trips with the XS and the rack was a real asset.  I once carried an empty 16 gallon keg back to the liquor store. :D  They aren't pretty but functional.  Anyway it looks like you have a good complete low mile bike to work with.  With a bit of elbow grease you may be surprised how well it cleans up.  Like I said in the other thread my 750 was stored for 25 years but in better conditions than yours it seems.  It sounds like you have a bit of carb work ahead of you.

Looks like a nice find, unmolested. You will be surprised when you squirt some dish soap in the finest grade steel wool and start giving that surface rust a gentle rub, think a lot of it will come back. Head gaskets looks tight but its been leaking pretty good around that filter.Real nice starting platform and if it was me I would patiently try to score a stock 76 sidecover, bikes worth it. Good luck and will follow your thread. You got good advice on the other.   Edit-Don't rush into carb rebuild kits. Your stock parts are better and will probably clean right up  ;)

Kits for the four carbs are about 100 bucks.  Mine just needed a lot of cleaning, Setting the floats is tricky, the gauges are not available that I could find, careful measurement with a 150mm scale seemed to work.  Some of the people here use tubing in the drain holes to check floats.

lol i am still obsessing about that side cover - real kick in bearings. if the weather is decent i will hit with the hose this weekend (still smells like cow)

and since we are trading tips and hints - back in my bicycle repair and restoration days we used to use bronze wool (buy it west marine or boat supply stores) and tri-flow lubricant to "gently" bring up the shine on the even the thinnest chrome

0000 steel wool is the weapon of choice but all chrome is not created equal and sometime are old friend steel wool can do more harm than good.

dont get me wrong - bronze wool isnt cheap so normally i will use 4x steel wool

lol but by the looks of some the chrome on this old girl i will need a heck of a lot more cutting power than 0000 or bronze wool has to offer lmao

Can't remember from your other post but are all 4 exhaust pipes solid. If so that a major +.. Also is your throttle turning, slides in carb moving. I would probably disassemble and dip them in Gunk but thats a touchy subject here  :o

Cool find!  That thing should clean up great. It's amazing what a good washing, some steel wool, and a little detailed cleaning will produce. Almost all my bikes started in similar shape. All the rust that I see should come right off with steel wool except the usual rusty spokes, ain't much you can do about them. Paint or replace. Good luck, Dano

What a great find on this 76 750. Less than 8000 miles and still all stock. Man way to go Saw750!!!! Give us some background on this classic. How did you find it? How long has it been in storage? Is it a 1 owner bike? Does it have a title? I also have a Candy Antares Red 76 750 and it also had the same rack and backrest on it when I bought mine. I took mine off, but still have them. Keep us posted on the clean up phase. Once again great bike-GOOD LUCK- Where are you at. Im in North Carolina.

well, that background on this pretty straight forward.

i advertise locally for british bikes and parts and got a call if i would be interested in honda 750 "twin"

a twin? i thought hmmm that doesnt make much sense so i was curious. i asked how much and he gave me the price - of course i was even more interested..lol

i decided to take the forty five minute trip and take a look at the bike and there is was. it belong to farmer who bought it new and road it until 1981. he parked it in barn to raise four kids and thats were it sat.

now beside the side cover being destroyed the only other issue was the title (i can hear gasps now..lol no worries lol)

he does have the title just couldnt find it at the time of purchase. (lol how many times have we heard that one) no, lol i saw it one day and came back to buy it the next. i dont have a truck so i was at the misery of my friends, so it was kind of a rushed deal and i caught him off guard

even if he didnt. i know the bike is his (mutual friends that used to ride with him back in the day and knew the bike and that it had been parked), have a bill of sale and more importantly he is good honest farm folk - the family is local for generations - we dont screw around.

and if there was a lien on the bike lmao the bank should have got it money back a few decades ago lmao

worse comes to worse i pay $45 for a new title. no worries - honestly - i have bought enough bikes to know how things work.

and for the why such a great deal it was what it was worth to him and perhaps his most important motivation - his 18 year old son decided that he wanted to start riding.

Its a good story and also cudos to you for acting in haste!  With such low miles, I would not think you will need carb kits. Anyway, the stock Honda parts are more reliable than the Keyster replacements. Maybe you will need bowl gaskets. I would have the carbs sonic cleaned and try to run them. They most likely have factory settings and won't need any changes. I would invest in a new K&N air-filter and be ready to ride for 30 years. While you are cleaning, be sure to make sure all of the breather hoses and carb drains are open.

Back to the carbs........They are not Amals for a reason.  They don't warp and they don't have paper gaskets. They have brass jets, not aluminum.

Use this site to download the carb pages or the entire manual.

Take your time to get the sidecover...............eventually one with the K6 flake red will show up.

I always used brass jets in my Amals (MKII's etc) I dont hate them but as you pointed out they are prown to wear.

Sometimes it was easier just to replace the old Amal concentric with JRC engineering carbs (snowmobile carbs lol) inexpensive and functional.
