permatex thread repair?
« on: March 12, 2010, 05:29:15 PM »
Hey guys, I have a couple stripped screws that hold the float bowls thanks to a "professional rebuild" the PO had done. Needless to say, the float bowls arent the greatest sealing in the world. Has anyone ever used the Permatex thread repair stuff with success? I wont have the carbs long (planning/saving for an EFI retrofit) so Im looking for a quick fix for this season. Thanks

Nick

drill and tap for a slightly larger thread. Tap, drill, and new bolts will probably cost less than the tube of goo.

Could just use a smaller bolt , washers and a nut.

So, the strategy is to lie to people you are asking for help?

I think I'll be busy going for a ride.

Good luck!

the smaller bolt worked with the ones that the hole went all the way through, but wouldnt work with the ones where the hole doesnt come through. I dont want to ruin the carbs incase I decide to switch back, or switch back if i sell the bike so I dont think sheet metal screws would be a good idea. I will look into time-serts. Thanks guys
