Sandcast experts - need help identifying 19 liter tank
« on: March 13, 2010, 04:21:24 AM »
I have a tank that I'm trying to confirm if its a nineteener.  For comparison I've got a pic I got off the SOOC site.

Here's the one I'm trying to identify.  Looks pretty close to me.  Were there other tanks, CB450 maybe, that could have the same bottom?

If it's the right tank the badge areas have been filled in.  If so, how hard would it be to remove the bondo.  I'm going to remove the paint today to see.  Maybe its the stripe but the shape seems off a little.  Is the top half of the tank the same as the later tanks?

There are no wrinkles looking through the filler hole but if you look at the first photo there won't be any.

The tank has been painted but the color on the bottom seems to match the candy red which would indicate an early CB750.  Is there a way to positively identify a nineteener?

That top tank is an early wrinkle before they put in the 4 relief dimples for the carb tops. Your tank though does not seem to have the wrinkles which would lead me to believe it not a real early one  ??? Here is a shot of mine.a wrinkle later 4 dimple.

Hey Mark
I'm not aware of any way to ID it except to fill it.
Don't know when the wrinkle tank era finished in relation to the engine/frame number sequences of the early models.
4.8 gallons converts to close on 19 Ltrs, and as far as I'm aware, this was the standard fuel capacity for all of the
'K' 750's.
Mick.
If I was you
I'd be worried about me.

ekpent,
I think the bottom shots of both tanks have the same wrinkles.  If you look at the wrinkles on the top pic, they would not be visible through the filler cap.
mick7504,
The later dimpled, wrinkle tanks were 17 liters.

The 19 teener was the first made and had issues with the carb top and cables so when the later 2 dimple and 4 dimple were made the capacity was slightly reduced because of the new confiquiration.

I am no expert on these so I look forward as well to seeing what one of our Gurus have to say. Just took a peek at the underside of a 75 and a 73 and they have a couple dimples,etc---yours iS def much different. HMM -  hopefully you got a winner there  :)   Looks like it for sure
