Rotor hitting stator
« on: March 22, 2010, 05:36:05 am »
Hoped to finish my S90 project yesterday, but when I kicked it over, there was a clatter. Removed the left cover and the rotor is touching the stator contacts. Front of vanes 180 degrees apart. Can see previous wear marks. Any ideas?  ???

Seeing as the rotor is on a tapered shaft, I wouldn't think it could not go on correct.
Is the stator mounted correct, might it have been damaged when you aquired the bike?

Locating dowel (s) missing?
Semi Geriatric ex-Honda mechanic and MOT tester (UK version of annual inspection). Garage full of "projects" mostly 500/4 from pre 73 (no road tax in UK).

Hi BryanJ & Group
There is no locating dowel (s). The dowel on the Super 90 stator is a stop for the cam chain guide roller. The stator is located by the fit of the outer diameter of the stator into the left crankcase.

If the rotor is spinning true I would check that the stator is seated properly and not bent.
