Name this petcock
« on: January 16, 2006, 08:33:49 PM »
Ok seriously, it's from my CB750K2, but last time I got a new fuel filter the parts guy said it looked like a petcock off either a K4 or K7... or some other model, I can't remember.  Can anyone let me know for sure, so I can order a rebuild kit over the phone tommorow.  Also, there is usually a tampon like fuel filter sticking out the top, but I didn't get a picture with it...

Early 70's CB 350? I would have gone with the SL but they had slightly different features.

For the Cb550s, the single outlet petcocks didn't go to production until 1977.  Assuming that the CB750 used the same parts bin, (seems likely) that would make it a K7.

I've got a single outlet petcock from a 77 550 and the front plate is rivoted, (what's that about?) it looks like you have a screw in the one hole on yours. I believe it's a later model 750.

Not a good picture, but it's from a K8/F3 manual. The petcock appears similar. Hope this helps.

Bob gets first prize - just went out to the shop to get the petcock from the 1978 750F3. Have it in my hand now and comparing to your pics it looks identical. The printing shown on the third picture on  mine has Keihin Japan and Pd with a Japanese character that looks like quotation mark slash.

IC, just to be sure, Bob's picture looks as if the fuel line nipple is parallel with the ground.  The nipple on my petcock is vertical (pointing at the ground).  Also, I can find the same one in my service manual, but the manual doesn't say which model its off of...darn.

Just curious, does the F3/K8 have a fuel pump?

-j,

Still can't tell you if this is yours, but here's a slightly better view with a diagram. Good luck ID'ing the petcock.

Thanks Bob, that helps a lot.  From that picture, i can definitly say that's not it.  Notice how the fuel line comes off the back pointing towards the riders right leg.  My fuel line nipple points straightdown from the petcock.  I also have some thing scribed on the petcock... there is what looks like a "k" and then a definite "7", but to my knowledge the K7 wasn't different than the others....(but I may, and probably am wrong)

If worst comes to worst, I'll stop down at the Honda dealer and look at their Microfiche.

The reason I tore the petcock apart, was that I was having some sort of "fuel delivery" problem.  I could accelerate at WOT or close to it, until about third gear when it started dying out.  I don't think the fuel deliverdd to the carbs was keeping up, so maybe this petcock is off a smaller CC bike.  The thing is I am almost certain that the replacement fuel filter ordered from the dealership was from a 750.  Took about 30 minutes to drain less than a half a tank... not good flow... but that's besides the point right now...

Thanks Bob.

j - the outlet nipple on my supersport points down, your inscription doesn't appear to be the same as I described, but I believe my petcock on the F3 is original. I think you are getting close.
F3 doesn't have a part called fuel pump - but there is an accelerator pump on #2 carb(marked42AA PIJ)

I found this on ebay today.  Its off a K8 and is also identical.  Since those F2/3s came out about the same time, I am willing to bet they are all the same part... thanks again for the help. At least, I'll have a starting point when I go to the dealership (which I think I am going to do to save confusion).

Thumbing through the Cb750 Shop manual, page 221 (Group 21 supplement, CB750 K5) has depicted a fuel cock that looks suspiciously like yours.

I'd imagine there are probably a range of 750s the petcock was used on... the K8 for sure, so I'll go with that unless I find it wrong, but I will keep the K5 in the back of my mind.
Thanks guys!

I have a 78 750k and I can definitely say it's not the same...although I wouldn't wager that mine has never been replaced.

This mystery will be solved when I stop by the honda dealer tommorow.  I will make sure to ask what years it was from, to put all our minds at rest.  Please don't anyone loose sleep over this :)

I just checked one from a K6 tank I have and it's exactly like yours, single outlet pointing downward. Too bad the thread is larger or I'd use it on my 550.

Got a good look at the dealers Microfiche, looks like its a K3 - K5.  It might be other later models too, but their database only went up to K5.

Thanks to all, I have a new rebuid kit and filter on the way.
