Really dumb valve question
« on: March 13, 2010, 06:13:03 PM »
Am I correct in assuming that the valves on the carb side are the inlet valves, and the valves on the pipe side are the exhaust valves?

The diagram in my manual is a little confusing.  So if the above is true then, it means I adjusted my valves to the wrong spec last year.  How bad is that for the bike?

Thanks in advance, Lenny.

Yes the valve on the carb side are the intake and the valves on the exhaust side are the exhaust valves. When you mean adjust do you mean tappet clearances? If so, then its wrong but not terribly bad like putting sugar in your gas tank. It probably ran pretty loud if it was off. The only difference is like .1mm of space though I think
Its hard to be wrong when you know nothing!

Thanks for the quick reply.  It's a little less than a millimeter difference.  I adjusted the inlets to the exhaust spec and vice versa.  It did seem louder after the adjustment, but it seemed to run ok.  The diagram in the manual is not really all that clear.

What a dumb mistake! :P
