« on: March 13, 2010, 10:21:18 PM »
The search is still on.. :o >:(

We have a lot of very hot sleds around here, they were racing near Revelstoke BC, today and an Avalanche hit a bunch of spectators.. >:(

3 dead so far, 7 seriously injured and the search will continue through the night....

Hope its no one we know.. .. real drag..

thats awful, the missing and killed riders and their families are in my prayers

WTF?
Even I heard on the news this past week that the entire West Coast Mountains were in avalanche warnings.
Why on earth an area (Revelstoke) obviously very educated on avalanche prevention would put on a contest this week is beyond me.

$$$$ ?

I think it had not really snowed for a few weeks, then Friday afternoon it snowed.. probably too late to call it off..

Just heard the 11PM news, Sounds like 5 (not sure) dead, 17 went to hospital, 2 critical, but they are still searching,  they dont actually know how many people were there..

Its called the Big Iron shootout..

I know people in the Revelstoke area hope it's not one of them, but the dumb SOB's there's an avalanche warning and they go play in it, if you want to do something dangerous and you get shortened up TS. Yes I did stupid things at points in my life and was lucky, but no whining from me when it went pear shaped.

Ditto! I remember taking a kayak out in a gale off the NC coast. I survived, if not I'd been one of the ds
that didn't know better than to kayak surf in a gale.

Finally tally in today, early reports were incorrect.

Out of approx 200 people there,
2 ended up dead, 31 or 32injured.. 5 of those seriously.

They were damn lucky, the debris field was around  a half mile long , 50 yards wide, and up to 30 ft deep.. lots of sleds and gear is still buried there..

I wonder 754 if it'll sharpen any of them up, just saw an interview on the Ceeb withe the head of the avalanche warning group who said the warnings were distributed by local media, radio etc and e-mail so the info must have been available, only got sympathy for families and yet maybe they're are better off with out the idiots hanging around taking up space, as far as the rest I hope the horsemen and others involved in the aftermath send everyone a hefty bill for services rendered, seems to me the overindulgent idiots brought the mounties and others into an area that had risks of other avalanches and so put their lives in danger, and should pay for it.
Grumble.
