yesterdays 75 dollar find/ ugliest cb
« on: March 14, 2010, 07:31:54 AM »
i tried to buy this bike 3 years ago to tinker with when i noticed it tucked in between two garages covered in years of growth and brush. the last tag on the bike was 06 so i might not be to bad off. yesterday while visiting a friend next door to the po house i noticed this POS sitting out in the drive about to fall over. since its the middle of winter here in oh i figured somone had bought it and it wasnt gettin wrenched on. so i go into my buds and ask him what gives whith the ol pos honda next door? does he wanna sell it? he says yea, he told me 1500 bucks! after lmfao till i couldnt breath i decided to walk next door and have a little more fun. after explaining to the guy that that vetter fairing and bags that was (as he said )in  still real pretty good shape hasnt been a sought after item since about 76 when the bike was made, and that after four years in the wheather it would take quite a sum of money to make the bike worthy of riding even out of town reliably. reluctantly he ageed to my offer of 75 dollars but stood firm on not helping me load it up for that price i was gettin it for (lol)  as he handed me the keys and title. this thing may have had more lights than a modern winger.

That's awesome, $75 with a title.  Build thread, you need to write a build thread! ;D

good deal.

Well done.  Now is exactly the right time to pick up these "Jap-Scrap" bikes, which are in fact motorcycles of enormously high quality.  But that quality is still generally unappreciated by most.  Get 'em now!

Today I removed and cleaned up the tach and speedo drive cables from my project CB350F of 1972.  Simply, they were like new and unworn.  Amazing quality.

actually, i need to figure out how to put a build thread together cuz im gettin real close to having the stray cat (78 ss cafe) ready to  assemble after two more brackets fabbed onto the frame and it gets powdercoated. we'll see how she runs soon as i get a little time though. turns over great if you jump the selenoid but not gettin power anywhere throughout the bike sooo.....  ignition or on off switch maybe? YES i did check the fuse lol. but was gettin dark by then.

What a score! It looks like the typical home brewed touring rig of the day. This kind of owner mods is what caused Honda to morph their Gold Wing into a two wheeled Barcalounger. Does it have a set of Lester wheels as well?

I want to find a bike like that. I'd have a 750 for around town riding, and one for the highway.
No matter how fast or how far I rode, I couldn't leave her memory behind.

That is an insane setup! Great find bud..

Id love to see some up close shots of it all.

didnt get a chance to mess with it yesterday at all. clock says 28 or29 thou. cant remember exactly why he said it was parked but i remember thinkin 20 bucks woulda fixed that. too bad after four years in the wheather itll be a #$%* load more to get right again. ive got plenty enough spare parts to replace anything it might need i guess. this is not the style that id put alot of work into restoring at all. however, it is pretty comfy so for long rides it would be nice. maybe ill just give her a good cleaning and paint the entire thing flat black. decent paint job not derby car paint job. lol. it'll be my honda nightmare! dont really have much time for it cuz my cafe bike is gettin close and im kinda collecting parts here and there for a long, low chopper build after the cafe. gonna try to post some other pics of it.

Are those speakers mounted on top of the trunk box?  Throw in a Led Zep cassette (or eight track) and rock on. ;D  Get some bell bottoms, a rayon shirt, aviator sunglasses and have a 70's flashback.  If you need a visual clue watch an episode of Starsky and Hutch. ;D

I paid $1,200 for a POS 750 from a member of this forum not knowing that the engine was complete trash... so you definitely got a good deal.

There's a guy here in town that has two Gold Wings, one a GL1000 and the other an 1100, just sitting uncovered behind a shed in his backyard.  Through the all of the Minnesota seasons.
We can see them from my Dad's backyard and slowly but surely they're returning to the earth.
Damn shame really.

started yesterday by removing the plugs from 1 and 2. replaced them and trimed the wires. gave the ol gas tank a good swishin out and jumped the selenoid. 1,2,3,and4 heated right up and the motor sounded real good. ran it up and down the lane to go through the gears and that seemed ok but the front break is hanging up some so it was just about a half mile or so down and back. started pulling off some of the old lighting that is either burnt out, broke, or just flat out illegal in 2010. thiers got to be 75 feet of speaker wire runnin lights and switches on this thing. also got all the locks on the bags and such freed up, cleaned and back in working order. the saddlebags have a key lock on the mounting bracket to unlock and remove the bags. thought that was pretty cool. the starter button prob turned out to be a couple of crossed wires back by the electrics and batt. the way the two wires were hooked up just looked wrong so i switched them real quick and the switch worked again. only real thing i see with the engine is a little bit of oil stain around the head gasket area. gonna shoot for fixin the front break today and get some lighting removed and origional wiring straightend out. havin fun with it but i should  really be workin on the cafe.

Nothing like a cb750 shop truck.  Got to luv those vetter bags.  I took mine to NC with all my gear, tools, tent, and still had room to stuff em full of food b/4 hitting the camp site.
