I purchased replacement rings from my Honda dealer, and instead of three rings I have 5. I think two are straight replacement and I think the set of 3 (2 very thin and one serrated looking thing) are the oil sweeper ring replacement.

Here's my question: the manual says to install them so that the manufacturer's mark faces up. I see no manufacturer's mark on any of the rings. They all look the same to me. Does it matter which way they go? The manual warns that incorrect installation will lead to "oil pumping".

Thanks

There are loads of answers to this question on the forum and the the compression rings will have markings close to one end

Your oil ring is made up of two thin ones and the squiggly one.  The squiggly ring is sandwiched between the two thin ones, thus making one oil ring per cylinder.

The top ring is silver and thick, the middle ring is black and thick, the oil ring is two thin rings with the squiggly one in between.

The manufacturer mark probably refer to the silver ring, or what the guy above me said.  I just know silver is on top.

Hope this helps.
