Hondas in Africa
« on: January 17, 2006, 02:46:51 AM »
Greetings all,

I just got back from a brief trip to Ghana, Africa with a group of my students, where I saw an abundance of Hondas still on the road.

mostly smaller bikes, but a few 750's and goldwings thoughout the western coast of the country.

Hym,
I also saw a few old small cc Hondas in SA, and Egypt. It seems that they survive well in the warmer climates and they are reliable and cheap to run. I wonder why there aren't any people from Africa on the forum??
Why were you in GHana? sounds like an interesting trip.
Jim.

Jim,
I was in contact with one member from South Africa but now I don't remember what his name was. I think he was on the Frappr map.

When I was in South Africa about five years ago I saw quite a few Beemers around Johannesburg and Mozambique had lots of the little moped type bikes, probably because Mozambique is such a poor nation. Wasn't into Hondas at the time so I don't recall those in either place.

BMW is big in SA, they have a big plant there which I assume builds cars, not sure if they build any bikes there? When you get out of Joberg you see all types of old bikes, all small engines as they are cheaper to run. Too dangerous in most places to be sitting on an expensive bike, IMHO.

Greetings from South Africa.  I think I am the only member from this part of the world.  I am into the CB400 Fours mostly, don't see to many on the roads these days, more 750's.
Yes BMW is a big company here, we have quite a few car manufacturing plants but no bikes are made here, in fact if you drive a BMW in your part of the world you will probably find that a lot of the parts are made in SA.

Drop by my web site to see what I do to 400 Fours and more.

G'Day Kevin, how are you mate? Well there you go, I didn't know you were in SA?

I can vouch for Kevin's work guys, he makes brilliant quality cnc alloy parts, Mike (The Head Scientist) Rieck supplied me with a set of Kevin's beautiful valve inspection covers, and I'm stoked.

Keep up the good work Kevin, (and get rid of those bloody oil coolers, before you ruin my business! :P) Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Tried to post a reply, made a cock up somewhere anyway if the reply pops up a couple of times my apolagies.

Thanks for the compliments guys, glad you liked my site.
Andy, so it seems I'm not the only SOHC nut on the African continent, pm his details and I will look him up.
The purple CB400F belongs to Kevin in Seattle ( eaglescall) I visited him last year and the bike looks even better in the flesh, he has done a first class job, there are more pics in the gallery section of this site.
My parts are based around the CB350/400 Fours but I am sure they will also fit some of the other models and also the CB/CL350 twins, Greg at Ohio cafe racers would know more about the Twin fitments. The generic rear set parts on my site should be able to be adapted for most bikes, would need the brackets welded or clamped to the frame to allow the rear set frame plates to bolt on.
I will be developing a bolt on set for the 750 as soon as I can get hold of a bike to measure.

G'day Terry, I am always entertained by your posts.  Oil coolers! never heard of such things!
