75 CL360K problem. Please help!
« on: March 14, 2010, 12:26:35 PM »
Okay, so earlier this week i bought a 1975 CL360K, really clean and i rode it to work and around for a couple of days. But two days ago i was riding and it bogged down and died like i had ran out of gas. But the tank was full. So i restart it and it's back to how it was before. Yesterday i rode it for a couple of minutes and then it had  a major loss of power. When i got home i felt the two pipes, one extremely hot, and the other was warm, and cooling down. It seems as if only one cylinder is firing properly. Does anyone know what would be causing this?
Things that might help:
-When the left spark plug is disconnected it still runs
-when the engine is on and you touch the housing for the left spark plug connector housing you get shocked
-spark plug is wet when it is removed
EDIT-
-I forgot to mention as well that the exhaust will be steady and then the left cylinder will all of the sudden burst, if that makes sense.
If anyone has any ideas of what might be the problem, please share.
Any help greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
_Tim

I would guess a bad plug wire or boot. It's okay until it gets hot, expands and then separates inside somewhere. The plug would get "wet" because it's not firing and the pipe would cool down on that side. It would explain the shock too. Check it from one end to the other for melting or cracking. Check the coil too just in case.

The guys will probably have some other things you could check too but that is just off the top of my head.

Good luck.

Thanks for the quick reply Mickey! I really appreciate it, and yeah, thats exactly whats happening. Night it'll run longer because its cooler, and during the day it dies faster because it's already hot. At least seems to be what's happening. But ill go take a look. Thanks again!

Also change the condensors. They are probably very old and leaking now. I find this pretty often on the 350/360 bikes that come here, with similar problems.

Like MickeyX says, too. Old plug caps make the cylinders run unevenly: NGK makes new ones for the bike, about $5 apiece. Use the 5000 (5k) ohm caps for the 360.
See SOHC4shop@gmail.com for info about the gadgets I make for these bikes.

Coils and such are notorious for acting up when they get hot.

Try reading this as a permanent fix -
