any of our Aussie members anywhere near preston beach?
« on: March 18, 2010, 09:25:02 PM »
if i can come up with airfare, as terrified of flying as i am, i have been invited to spend a month there over christmas this year. all i'd have to do is get myself there. whats it like? i'm not really into touristy stuff. theres an old katana there for me to ride and a futon to sleep on, looks like it might be just the trick if i can get some money coming in so that i can consider a vacation.

Sorry man......I hang in Brisbane when I'm there. (anticipating a june 1st return)

Preston beach is way over in Western Australia by Perth is it helps anyone geographically

If it helps any Fuzzybutt.....buy your tickets for dates prior to rate hikes affecting the Christmas season.

I went over December 8th and the difference between that week vs a week later was almost $1000.00

Yeah theres a definite jump between the first and second week of December. Right in time for folks trying to get to home or loved ones over Christmas.

We're coming into the cheap time of year right now (winter in Oz) as far as tickets go.....seen some outa LA on both QANTAS and VAustralia at sub $800 round trip.

You do know it takes 14 hrs on the plane to just get to Australia right?

You can break that up obviously with a stop in Hawaii or Fiji or someplace.......but it doesn't make it shorter.

i'ts been nearly 20 years since i've been on an airplane. i had no idea airfares were so high nowadays. last time i flew i went from Tampa International to Bradley International in Windsor Locks CT and paid something like 300 dollars round trip in 1st class. the flight at the end of this year is going to run me around 1800 dollars. it'll be worth it for this vacation though. my friends idea is for us to do some serious rides while i'm there. wow i'll be getting my very first passport at 42 years old!

By the time you add in the round trip to where ever you jump off from (Los Angeles for example) that seems ballpark.

Cheapest I've ever done it for was about $1300 all in.

We went to Australia in April 2006 for about $1000 each on Quantas.   Included in the package was two internal flights once there.  They divided the country into three zones.  Once in Sydney you could fly anywhere in zone 1 at that price.  We went from Sydney to Cairns and later Brisbane back to Sydney.  If you wanted to fly on to zone 2 or 3 the price for the package was 1200 and 1400.  Check and see if they still run this package it was not much more than a single ticket from LA to Sydney and you could see more of the country if you were so inclined.  We still had to get to LA and back on a domestic airline. :P   Quantas was a first class operation in every way compared to what we have to put up with from our domestic airlines.

Well...Qantas used to be the cats ass but they've slipped a bit in recent years.

One thing I got a kick out of was flying back. We arrived in LA before we left Sydney according to the time and date.
