I think they all came stock with hydraulic pressure switches for the front brake light. This is mounted on a machined block on the triple tree, follow the hose from the master cylinder and it goes directly to the switch block. The switches sometimes fail but maybe a wire has just fallen off. The two wires on the switch go into the headlight shell and join the main harness in there.
Modified braking systems should have some brake light switch on the front. Often a master cylinder with a mechanical switch is used, sometimes a "switch banjo bolt" is used, usually on the master cylinder outlet.
