Two Guys from the U.P.
« on: January 18, 2006, 05:54:09 AM »
Two guys from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan die and wake up in Hell.
The next day the Devil stops in to check on them and sees them dressed
in parkas, mittens and bomber hats warming themselves around the fire.
The Devil asks them, "What are you doing? Isn't it hot enough for you?"
The two guys reply, "Vell, ya know, we're from nordern Michigan, the
land of snow and ice and cold. We're just happy for a chance to warm up
a little bit, ya know."

The Devil decides that these two aren't miserable enough and turns up
the heat. The next morning he stops in again and there they are, still
dressed in parkas, hats and mittens. The Devil asks them again, "Its awfully hot dow! n here, can't you guys feel that?"

Again the two guys reply, " Vell, like we told you yesterday, we're from nordern Michigan, the land of snow and! ice and cold. We're just happy for a chance to warm up a vee bit, ya know."

This gets the Devil quite steamed so he decides to fix the two guys. He cranks the heat up as high as it will go. The people are wailing and screaming every where. He stops by the room with the two guys from Michigan and finds them in light jackets and hats, grilling walleye and drinking beer. The Devil is astonished, "Everyone down here is in abject misery, and you two seem to be enjoying yourself."

The two Michiganders reply, "Vell, ya know, we don't get too much varm weather up dere in da UP, we've just got to have a fish fry when the veather's this nice."

The Devil is absolutely furious; he can hardly see straight. Finally he comes up with the answer. The two guys love the heat because they have been co! ld all their lives. The Devil decides to turn all the heat off in Hell.

The next morning, the temperature is below zero, icicles are hanging everywhere, people are shivering so bad that they are unable to wail, moan and gnash their teeth.

The Devil smiles and heads for the room with the two Michiganders. He gets there and finds them back in their parkas, bomber hats, and ittens. They are jumping up and down, cheering, yelling and screaming like mad men. The Devil is dumb founded, "I don't understand, when I turn up the heat you're happy. Now its freezing cold and you're still happy. What is wrong with you two?"

The Michiganders look at the Devil in surprise, "Vell, don't ya know, if Hell froze over dat must mean da Lions von da super bowl.
We'll all be someone else's PO some day.

You know, there is a joke like this for minnesota too. Except in that one, the vikings win the super bowl, which we all know could never happen!

I think there is also a joke like this where;
a K8 beats an F1 in a race.
 ;)

Well of course that is a joke. When the K8 needs to let the K1 have a half lap lead and yet the K8 still wins, that IS a joke! But you need to feel sorry for the K1 all the same. :D

I knew that, what I wanted to say was that the K8 would beat the K1 while PULLING the F1 cause it could not start! ;D

You know it had to be said!  If I had to have an earlier 750, it would be the F1. I dont want you to feel bad!

Actually, I have never seen a K8, are there many differences between 7 & 8? try and be objective!  ;)

OK I will try. Well the seat on the 78 is stepped slightly more on the back passenger part. Side covers have slightly different badges.
The carbs are mostly the same but the 77 still has slots on the main needle, 78 does not. A few minor engine improvements on the 78. The 78 has the mechanically strongest engine out of all the sohcs and contrary to terry in ox says, the k8 can produce the same amount of power as the k1, maybe more, them carbs are what hold it back some but contact buffo and he know how to replace the low speed jets. You can change the mains like the earlier carb.

Most other differences are very hard to pick out.

Hey it is a nice tank and allows me to go 300 miles before needed gas. PLus it looks worlds better than the earlier tanks and better than any fatboy tank ever could.

Thanks. Is the tank the 'tear drop' shape I have seen?

About 6 gallons. 5 for regular and 1 in reserve.  I can hit almost 300 miles before needing gas. I like that.

Well the K8 also has the strongest motor, mechanically speaking as it contains all the refinements ever made to these motors. It can be just as powerful if not more so than most, the carbs hold it back cause of stupid epa garbage.

I must amend the carb part. Buffo, found slows that can be tapped into the ports. Making these carbs almost as tuneable as the earlier carbs. They do not have the slots in the needles but if you can change the mains, you really dont need those.
I know the 78 is heavier but look at the size of the chain and sprockets. They are huge compared to the 530 set up. A swap and you probably drop a couple pounds. With the bigger tank, there is a bit more weight but I will take that over having to stop every 200 miles.
The K7-8 were not regarded very well but I think that is more because or the difference in how they look when compared to the earlier Ks than anything else. Just look at a k8 and k1-6. There are a lot of differences in the LOOK but mechanically, most everything is very similar. I one one of the few that like the K8 style and while I would own a K1, yes I would, it would end up being fitted with a new fender without the front brace and the K8 seat and tank. But thats just me! ;)
