What grips are you using?
« on: March 19, 2010, 06:02:58 AM »
My bike still has 1971 grips on it and they are terrible to say the least. I want to upgrade with something a little more comfortable. What grips are you running? Can you post pics? And opinions would be great. Thanks

I installed this from cycle Gear.  Nice feel but they are showing significant wear after just 3000 miles.

I like the Oury's.  Less than $10, nice quality, and good grip.  They're comfortable, though I should mention I am almost always wearing gloves when riding.  I got mine at Z1:

Are they a pretty soft grip? If so, then they will wear out pretty fast but should give you good control as hand slip would be low.

I have used pro gels grips and they give a pretty good grip but did little for vibration dampening.

Gran Turismo grips from Partsnmore.  $8/pr.  So far so good, but I have almost no miles on them yet.  I was impressed at what I got for my $8.

Love the Ourys.  Soft and grippy, but don't wear out too quick.  And when they do need to be replaced they peel off easily because of how soft they are.

Just about any grips that don't have those chrome end caps on them can be made to work with bar end mirrors.  Just cut a circle out of the end.  I typically just install the grips and then tap the end with a hammer, which cuts the end off in exactly the same shape and size as the handlebar.

I also have the Gran Turismo grips on my K4. I completely agree they look great, are super comfy and are dirt cheap!

I wound up putting the gel grips I got for my sohc on my 92 nighthawk, for 10,000 miles in two years they've been great, no sign of delamination or deterioration.  I'll get another set for my 750 when the time comes.  I highly recommend them.

I am really pleased with my Randakk's Amazing Grips.  I am replacing my other bike's grips with these. The 750 is much more comfortable with them than pro grips I had before.  Randakk's has a web site for early Gold Wing.  Grips are available there.

I use Spider grips picked up at the local Honda place on sale.  I like 'em. Very grippy. Really good on the little bit of road vibration +70mph.

These are what I'm using. Absolutely lov'em. The large rubber insert quells bar vibrations better than any I've ever tried. They're a little pricey but I would buy them again.

I had those Kurys on my VT1100C and liked them ok.  They have to be installed so they fit your grip just right, so put them on one at a time and move quickly.
They look cool too.

I like the Oury's.  Less than $10, nice quality, and good grip.  They're comfortable, though I should mention I am almost always wearing gloves when riding.  I got mine at Z1:

+2 )or 3 or 4) on Oury's - I've been running 'em on mountain bikes since I was like 12. Super comfy. I've got about 10k on my current set, and they're going strong. They come in wacky colors, if you're into that sort of thing, too.

+1 on the Italian Turismos, old school, gives a fat bar feel, isolates vibration, and comes in white.  What is not to like!

I've always used Oury's on my mountain bikes and they are great for that. However old original K1 grips are horrible but replacement K1 NOS grips are really the best. I wouldn't have anything else. But the 40 year old ones are useless I agree. Try a set of new ones and you'll be amazed.

I have been running what's called "Bolton style" grips on most of my bikes for years.  They are cheap & vintage looking but what I like the best is they are fatter than most grips out there.  Only draw back I can find is they are usually a little shorter than other grips.
