Need a new petcock.
« on: March 19, 2010, 07:25:12 AM »
The petcock on my '75 750k is in pretty rough shape so I am thinking about just replacing it. The part number for '74 and down is different but they look the same (except one fuel fitting location) can I use one of these petcocks? They are everywhere and the '75 one seems hard to find.

The 74 and earlier are held on by 2 screws where the 75 and 76 mount to a round screw on bung. They are Not interchangeable.

My '75k is mounted with two screws, the 750F was mounted with a bung.

I see that the early 70's 350F, 500 and 750 all have petcocks with two screws. Does anybody know if these can be interchanged? More to the point -- does anybody know if there's any type of adapter that would let us replace these two-screw petcocks with the bung-type petcock or some other type?

Your tank on that bike may not be a 75 then.Lots of parts were traded back and forth over the years on these.. Does it still have original paint, either blue or red ? What are your frame and engine serial numbers?Good way to date them for sure.

The parts diagrams for the '75 750k show the two screw style petcock also. I am asking exactly what Vames is asking.

Here is a 1975 Planet Blue stock 1975 cb750 K tank.See the bung,no screws and petcock mounts on the other side. Your tank is not a 75. Sometimes if a 74,which has the two screws, was sold in 75 it was titled that way.Check your serial numbers just to make sure what all you got.
