re lacing a FRONT wheel
« on: March 19, 2010, 02:18:21 PM »
I see all these posts about re lacing rear wheels, and how to true them on the swing arm. But I haven't came across anyone talking about re lacing their front wheel.

Is it the same process?????

Can it be trued on the swing arm as well?

Anyone got any step by step pics for their front wheel installation..

I'm going to do both on my own, just wanted to make sure about the front wheel situation.

Thanks!

The process is the same. I rebuilt the front wheel on my K1 using a set up like this

This was basically a bicycle wheel building frame and I had a couple of mounts machined to take the wheel bearings.

I managed to get it within 0.05mm axial and 0.04 radial. Took a bit of time, but thats free!!

Just make sure that all the spokes are tight and ring nice

Here is a similar setup using Harbor Freight equipment:

Take pictures up close and full view before you take it your old spokes out:

And take some notes  ;D  Basically, once you get the first 4 spokes in, repeat the pattern 9 more times.

The FAQ has a great discussion on relacing and on truing.  I also found some good instructions through a Google search too.

Can I have a motorcycle when I get old enough?
If you take care of it.
What do you have to do?
Lot’s of things. You’ve been watching me.
Will you show me all of them?
Sure.
Is it hard?
Not if you have the right attitudes. It’s having the right attitudes that’s hard.
