steering stop welding question
« on: March 19, 2010, 01:59:49 PM »
One of my steering stops are broken off and I was wondering if a new piece of metal (screw or something cylindrical) could be welded in place.

It seems like the lower triple is made up of soft pot metal, and I don't know if it will be strong enought to weld something on there.

I have an arc welder and a mig. I would prefer to use the arc welder because it deals better with painted surfaces..

What do you guys think?

Or would it be better/easier to just drill it out and put in a screw with a couple of washers on each end?

Thanks.

I searched around and couldn't find anything.

I think the lower triples on all of the fours are cast iron, I'd remove some paint before welding too.
