CB350F Carbs wtb - what else fits
« on: March 19, 2010, 07:32:20 PM »
Hi,
Which other models(years)  of carbs  fit a 1972 cb350f?
I need (looking for)  a rack of carbs for my bike, and was curious of what else fit if I can not find exact year and engine size.
Thanks

400f is similar if not exactly the same. It probably is jetted different, someone will probably post the exact differences of the grind of the needles or jet sizes.

The CB400F is exactly the same except for the idle jets.  I think they are 38 vs. 35, or 40 vs. 38.

Standard jets sizes are as follows:
slow jet: 350F = #35, 400F = #40
main jet: 350F = #80 (typically), 400F = #75

While the carb slides themselves are the same, the slide needles and the needle jets are different on the 400F versus the 350F.   However, you might be able to compensate for the differences by changing the needle clip position.

The idle mixture screw is different, but I believe this is really only because the 400F had special "EPA-mandated" caps to limit the adjustment range.

All in all, if you find a set of 400F carbs, throw in a set of size 80 mains and you'll probably be fine.

350-4 and 400F carbs have the same bodies and rack assembly. They are not necessarily the same! The "setting code" is different and I see some assume this means just the main and idle jets are different. No! This can also mean the slide cutaway, needle profile, and emulsion tube/needle jet. Actually the slides are identical 16111/2-333-004 showing the 350's "333" code part used on the 400 (code 377). The "needle set" (metering needle plus the metering jet/emulsion tube) #16012-333/377-004 is specific to model though, so using a 400 needle set on a 350 may cause a lot of tuning grief. The main jets on both are #75, but the 350 uses a #35 pilot and the 400 uses a #40.

If you have a carb rack with corroded and unusable bodies then a 400 rack will fit OK, but you should use the 350-4 carb's needles and emulsion tubes to have a "stock" setup.

Thanks for all the advice, as of now I do not have any carbs, but I will try to save myself some grief and find a set from a350f.
