"tinkle, tinkle, tinkle..."

Dammit- I'll be right back...

It's gonna be 110 deg F again today, so I probably won't need to tinkle all day.............. Is 9.30 am too early for a beer? ;D

What do you mean Terry? It's never too early for a beer  ;D

How are you Juha? What's the temp in Finland today? How's that bike going mate? Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Nothing wrong with being lazy Juha, like I keep telling my wife: "You #$%*ing #$%*, you've ruined my life!", er, wait a minute, I meant to say "If you want something done properly first time round, get a lazy man to do it."

My theory, based on my own personal laziness, is that a lazy bastard will work out the quickest, and best way to do something, rather than rush at it blindly, thus ensuring that he doesn't have to get off his lazy ass and do it all again when it fails............ Cheers, Terry. ;D

I'm looking for a recommendation. I'm a size 12 foot.

I have steel toed Redwings 9 inch lace up work boots I like, but I'm finding that the leather's breaking at the back of the steel toe cap on the left boot from upshifts...the leather's not especially thick in this pair.

So I switched to another pair of Redwings, pull-on style, steel toes, thicker leather...but they're quilted inside and they're big feeling around the pegs and pedals.

Ideally, I'd like something with a one inch heel or so to catch against the pegs a good Vibram or similarly grippy sole and not too thick or wide from the arch forward to allow easy access and feel for the shifter in particular.

And I'd like them to look at least a little bit butch as opposed to sport-bike-like.

Recommendations for real motorcycle boots ?

I get everything from Wolverine Worldwide. They make Harley Boots, Cats, Wolverine Bates, etc. They're about 10 miles from here and have an outlet, and you can also order online. http://www.wolverineworldwide.com/
Believe or not, today, I rode in with Merrell Clogs (also made by Wolverine) and shorts!....Yeah, I know...Actually, I'm doing better! I used to ride in Jack Purcell BadMinton shoes! No tread on the sole! I like regular tennis shoes, but my left lace keeps getting tangled up in my shifter!

Sidi 'On Roads'. Waterproof, breathable, low heel with slanted front so you don't catch it on the footpeg.

I've got a pair of lace up Georgia steel toe boots that I've just about worn out in less than 6 months (tilesetting, wrench turning, and riding are tough on a boot).  I don't mind the steel toe as far as shifting comfortably ,and they have saved my tootsies more than once.  The leather is worn through on the toes so now you can see the steel toe... I've seen a great fix though, you just coat the toes w/ rhino linner (or any other truckbed linner: hurculiner, plasticote etc) and ride on!

That must be the fact that i live in the mountains, been in the ski-patrol, etc, but for me - only good brand mountaineering shoes. They will be Gore-tex, so waterproof, breathable, looks are great (for me) and they are extremely functional. Of course only the ones above your ankle...  :)

I'm just wearing my cheap-a$$ work boots for the time being. I think I'm going to get some "law enforcement" type boots soon though. I like the ones that lace up but have the side zipper. And they should be comfortable enough to wear all day as I'll use them as work boots too. Don't need the steel toe anymore at work, unless I drop the phone on my foot. ::) I don't like riding with the steel toe just because of the shifter feel (and because I have big feet). Steel toe boots definitely saved my little piggies a couple of times though.

Question for all you steel toed boots/work boots wearers: did you have to alter the position of the gear shift lever to make room for the depth of the toe of your boots?

thought i would, but my shifter hits right behind the steel toe, so no change.  really i was more worried about loosing "shifter feel"

I guess that was part of my question, too. Whenever we were teaching the 'gear' part of the course the question came up all the time about motorcycle vs non-motorcycle footwear. Apart from physically being able to get a toe under the shift lever the other concern was loss of 'feel'.

...getting here a little late. Sidi makes a really comfortable boot. Personally, I swear by RedWings that I put red hiking boot laces in.  Those flat hiking laces don't come untied.

You've just got to remember to not leave the loops dangling so that they don't get caught on the peg when you are putting a foot down. I've seen many a student end up a red faced heap on the ground because of that!

Herman Survivors from Wally world - Steel toe, $35.  Like the rhino idea my leather is gone in a few spots.  Function more important than fashion.

Nick, about 32 years ago I got a lace caught on a /2 carb, so I re-arranged the laces so that they tie on the outside of the boot.  I've never been caught since.  Now the cuff of my pants is another story.  too bad I can't wear shorts in the winter.

Chances are i will probably keep wearing Dakotas like i wear for work now. I need to get another pair sometime soon though since they are gettin a little ragged from the use of being in the oilfield then working at the tire shop. wont know about the shifter thing till i get a peg for the left side of the bike.
