Well I was off work today sick with a cold, which is f*cking ridiculous considering that it hasn't dropped below 70 deg F and was 110 on Sunday, anyway, that Pingel petcock I ordered from Z1 Enterprises for my Suzy GS1000S arrived in the mail (albeit with the wrong mounting base) so I dragged myself out to the 'shop and machined up a new base, screwed it all together, and took it for a run.
Now being as safety concious as I am after riding for 37 years, I actually removed my work-shorts, and wore jeans with my T shirt and steel capped elastic sided work boots, summer gloves and open face helmet. Of course, all this additional clothing necessitated stopping at a "pub" and quaffing a litre of cider before continuing on my adventure. I re-discovered a magnificent road I lost "Brigadoon" style a couple of years ago, which consists of 60 degree slopes, and corners remeniscent of the Swiss Alpine roads that made me so carsick when I was a kid, so I did my best to scrape my elbows on the white line as I took those bends at maximum warp.
In hindsight, a leather jacket and proper boots might have been more appropriate, I've got lots of different bike boots, I like the look of my old "Johnny Reb" Harley boots I bought 20 years ago when I had my Sporty, and I bought a nice pair of Red Wings on Ebay back in 1999, but the trouble with all "pull on" type boots, is that whatever you can pull on, the road can pull off. The best pair that I have is actually an old pair of "Rossi" scramble boots (pre "Moto Cross" days) that you stick your foot in, then wrap the boot's shin guard around your leg, then strap up with about 6 straps and heavy duty buckles. They look a bit dated now, but are the strongest boots I've got, I bought them when I was 15 years old, and we've had some amazing adventures together, but today I was too lazy, ha ha! Cheers, Terry.
