come on guys, obviously cb750k77 knows everything there is to know about passing emissions in a 95 corolla. lets just leave it to him and stop trying to help Shenanigans out.   ::)

Damn your right....
I wish I knew everything too. *sniff* maybe some day.

well if it were your job to know then i would give props to you! but infact it is my JOB my lively hood to know how to make a car pass state emissions????

i passed all the state exams with flying colors... and i see about 16-18 cars a day and help many many pass emissions... i "might" know what i'm talking about OK??

as a side job and hobby i also fix and repair failed smog's on the weekends and rebuild motorcycles and fix computers... so i have a very well rounded idea on how to fix failed smog and cars and motorcycles in general!

No need to get your panties in a bunch. Testing cars and knowing what an o2 sensor does really doesn't fit together in my book, but I tell ya what... I'll take your word for it as I could really care less either way, I was trying to offer up some advice to a guy in need, not get into a pissing match with you.

Take care bud.

Boy am i glad i live in the free state of Indiana. There is no way my truck would pass emissions. Now if we could just get titles easier it would be a great place to live.

Is the testing place a test only station?

Also, can you have a Toyota dealer do the test?

Are these state-run facilities or is it a private facility?
When we had to get emissions baloney when we lived in Missouri my pop would just go to a shop that would accept an extra donation to get those numbers to look better.

The crappier part of town, the better for the testing and donation.

This is a state run facility but there are also private ones.

I think I might have figured out the problem. After checking of the type of emission control system it has on it via its number, it has the California emission control system. WHY or how I dont know as it was bought new 2 owners back from a dealer here in PHX.

Anyways the "California" emission systems uses its own special catalytic converter. So this might just be the problem....

yes i can attest that CALIFORNIA has its own cats they are FAR better than the 49state cats!

*hint* its the reason i told you that you might have a CAT problem! cuz the water and carb cleaner should of taken care of the problem!

I would take it to a Toyota dealer and have a pre-test performed. They should be able to tell you why it will not pass, then again, it may pass using their equipment.

Oh, I would not tell them you have failed the test at another location.

+1, and if you have an air pump that supplies additional air to  the converter under certain driving conditions, it can effect things if it's inop.

Don't know if you've solved the problem yet. I work at a Nissan dealer in NJ. Only California is harder to pass. They even fail us if the shift indicator is off a little. Anyway, try running some combustion cleaner through the engine. We use a product called BG, works great. I've personally had 3 vehs that failed for Nox. I ran a can of combustion cleaner through them & a can of fuel injection cleaner through & they all passed no problem. One of the replies talked about carbon build up. This stuff cleans out the inside of the intake, intake ports in the heads, & the combustion chabers. Including the valves. Just find a ported vacuum sorce(only sucks when throttle opened) & put a length of hose on it. Put the other end of the hose in the can a little at a time while keeping the revs up, about 2,000rpms should do, until the can is empty. Good luck.

OK has anyone asked if the guys engine light is on... Just asking because if I recall if the computer see's a major problem it might go into a limp home mode (which can be caused by a bad O2 sensor), and it would never reach optimal emisions.  Also just cause their is no engine light doesn't mean the light works.. take it up to a autozone and have them run a free test in the lot just to make sure there are no codes tripped if u can.... I'm not buying this whole "sat for a year cause the girl was preg..." it probably sat because it couldn't pass emissions.  Also another product thats good for cleaning out carbon build up and cats is seafoam.  I got a 94 T-bird with the mod motor and they are pretty famous for the egr getting clogged and not tripping any codes.  Also one suggestion I haven't seen any one make.  Have you checked to make sure the pugs are right for that engine and not a differnt heat range?  And also have you tried putting a vacuume gauge on the engine their might be a leak somewhere throwing things off.

It has an ODB 1 system on it. The check engine light is working correctly as I have pulled the code by tripping the diag. box. Car places that test for free like auto zone only have a ODB2 reader. t took a while but I tracked down an ODB1 reader. About half way on my drive to California the light came back on, I have not had time yet to see what code it is throwing now. The people who had it before had come from an emission free state and it did probably sit because they couldn't get it to pass here.

It had new correct plugs in it that were not gapped, fixed that.

Ran a bottle of sea foam.

Has no leaks, EGR system work.

Dont think there is blow by, all the other readings were ridiculously low.

I wish I had more time to work on it but I only have 1 day a week off work.
