Some employers simply can't handle the high employee costs, and outsource the labor to countries like China, and Mexico where wages are negligible, and labor laws are pretty much non-existent. This leaves thousands of Americans without jobs.

I am glad you said some as most out sourced business is done purely for profit....nothing else. It won,t be too long before these "out source" countries become smarter and richer then there will be no cheap place to get anything made and it will all start over again. Get rid of huge conglomerates and cheap outsourcing and you will have a lot more home production leading to more jobs and more realistic out comes for the population. You are {and we} are being screwed by big business all in the name of profit, when we get back to doing things for our people and not for outrageous profits the whole world will be a better place.
Mark, that is a stupid post mate and that attitude is half the problem.

Mick
Your right Mick, many companies are outsourcing purely for profit, but isn't "profit" the reason free enterprise exists in the first place? If I were to start my own company, I would hope to be profitable.
Profit from free enterprise is a good thing.

And there is nothing wrong with what you have said the problem lies with the size of the profits made, greed is the problem, not legitimate profit.

You are SOOOO correct here.  There was an article online toady about how the new healthcare bill will cost AT&T $1 Billion this year.  It's basically related to a cost accounting change in the way companies get reimbursed for medicare prescription drug benefits it provides.  $1B is 1/3 of there last quarter profits ($3B).  They are allready making waves about reducing prescription drug and health benefits. REALLY......so your gonna make potentially $12 Billion and you have $1 Billion in new charges and you have to start cutting benefits?  There stock still rose $.09

How much profit is enough for these greedy bastards?  >:(

It seems to me that an interpretation of government tax spending on Health Care in the USA thru medicare/medicaid significantly exceeds the AUS gov. spending on a per capita basis. It also appears that it costs you more for private health insurance and yet, the majority of you are seemingly worse off for it.

Why should that be the case?

Here in Australia we are expected to pay thru the nose for most things.
The real operating/business cost of health care here is probably higher than it is in the US.
The doctors and surgeons here all do very well for themselves.

"The   'U.S.S. Government' appears to be leaking seriously. The lifeblood is spilling uncontrollably and those that feed off the hard work and savings of others continue to gorge themselves excessively. The commanders dont want there power and position usurped so they fail to act in a responsible way. The lowly officers and crew do there duty and obey orders, to the best of their abilty. But, without the will for change, the leaks can't be plugged, and the ship continues to sink.........."

The abuse of public money/tax is not coming from the lower class. The middle class has always suffered the real financial burden of taxation.. In terms of contribution from hard work and savings, they probably provide the greatest collective contribution to successful society and nationbiulding.

All business is assisted in one way or another to succeed by tax incentive, concessions etc etc. Many of those same businesses provide goods and services to the government. With very few exceptions, the products and services they provide are excessively priced. (OK , in certain circumstances there are valid reasons for justifiably high and exorbitant prices).
So in paying excessive prices for these goods and services the taxpayer is subsidising all the businesses that supply and also the business/social chain below that.  Every business loves a government contract. Right? Which is the best to shoot for over there, Health, Defense, Infrastructure......?

It seems a change in collective will might be required.
Bad commanders like unhealthy rivalry and bickering that they can control to their advantage , while avoiding the dirt, sweat and pain of just achieving a livable income. Hell, they'll even send you me and our sons and daughters to die, not so much just to protect you, but to protect their interests and the interests of those they benefit from.

Failing the majority having sway over the politicians in favor of real equitable reform,....................

 I'd consider a 'Tea Party'   ::)

The following conversation is fictional.  Any resemblance to actual people is pure coincidence.

Boy, look at the mess I started.

Yes, it sure has all us bikers all riled up.

Let's hope not.

Yeah.  I try to stay away from political threads as much as possible.

I'm new here, and I sure don't want to start making enemies!

Come on guys... let's go look at babes instead.

You'll never catch me in a political thread!

Here's 5 paragraphs on why fighting is bad...

The induction of the flow venturi orifice vacuum pressure compensated by the fiducial point backpressure endothermic flux capacitor induces thermal instabilities therefore PODS are bad.

I agree.  I love you liberal people.  I don't wanna fight.

Yes.  Let's not fight.

Here's where I say a one-liner.

Yeah.  Let's go shoot some guns instead!

Hey look.  I have antlers.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!  I DON'T WANT TO FIGHT.  I JUST WANT TO TYPE IN ALL CAPS.

Before I fight, I need to see the math as to why fighting is good.

I never jump into political threads.  I don't know how you guys can stand it.

Yes.  I was trying to tell you guys.  We are all "Comrades."

I agree with Ed. Let's not fight.  Here's a link to an article.  click

Yeah.  Come on guys.  It's only stupid government stuff.

I don't have time to fight.  I'm too busy trying to figure out what my name means.

First off... why are we fighting?
Second off... why are we fighting?

I'm done fighting.  I frankly don't have the patience or time to go round and round.

Go ahead and call me eldar.

I'm watching you.  I know your every move.  Has anyone seen Brimmer lately?

I agree with Joe that businesses exist to make profit..... I think that problems arise because a lot of times excessive profits are at the expense of human life and well being. If there is only $100 between 100 people and one person owns $99, that leaves $1 for 99 people to live on.... where is the morality in that?

I'm done making sense... now i wanna get back to making my bike go faster.

I like cake, especially this recipe I recently found.

What a week!  Into the cake mix that was this week went triumphant House votes, Senate votes, and then even another House vote, just for good luck. Well whipped, it went into the oven of overheated Republican rhetoric, but came out just fine in the end when the buzzer dinged. It was finally served up to President Obama for his signature, complete with the tasty, tasty frosting of Democratic schadenfreude (from watching the Republicans have such a public hissy fit). ;D ;D ;D

RM I don't mind standing at the cabin door with the squirrel gun but the several billion are getting in the way, although I wouldn't have lasted back then, 4 bouts of pneumonia I would have been dead at # 2 or 3 so maybe if we loose 2 billion it would work out. By the way I'm still working on loggers songs, got one from BC that I'm not sure if I've heard  before.

A few health care observations and rankings.

the US ranks 37th in overall health care.
It's kind of odd the US places such a great emphasis on winning Olympic Gold Metals
and we're no were near the top in health care.

http://www.photius.com/rankings/healthranks.html

and 72nd in this study,

http://www.photius.com/rankings/world_health_performance_ranks.html

but we're 2nd in total health expenditures.

http://www.photius.com/rankings/total_health_expenditure_as_pecent_of_gdp_2000_to_2005.html

"The United States, for example, has reduced the number of preventable deaths for people under the age of 75 to 110 deaths for every 100,000 people, compared with 115 deaths five years earlier, but other countries have made greater strides. As a result, the United States now ranks last in preventable mortality, just below Ireland and Portugal, according to the Commonwealth Fund’s analysis of World Health Organization data. The leader by that measure is France, followed by Japan and Australia."

Looking at all these numbers it's clear, the US ain't worth a crap in Health Care.

This poor woman has no Health Insurance. The bills for her child's asthma medication does not leave her enough money to buy a battery for her car, so she has to crank it.

BTW, just did a health insurance search and compared it to my old home in NC.

Same coverage is double in NC.

The US ranks first in the most f'ed up insurance health system in the world.

There is our GOLD MEDAL.

Looks more like a european scene. The asthma medication was easy. She just made the wrong choice when deciding between the battery and the shoes...

She could not afford an American car and she got the shoes at the Salvation Army Thrift store. A sad case indeed.
