Happens to us all
« on: March 22, 2010, 04:52:29 AM »
Today was the start of the BIG Five Four for me.
(And thanks for the candle and piece of cake that is displayed in my profile  ;D)
A bit over a year ago I registered on this forum and just wanted to say thanks to you all for sharing your ideas and asking the questions that get the mind going as well as the opportunities that have arisen to make what we do bigger and better.
Anyway guys, keep up the good work.
Mick

I remember the 54, that was ahhhhhhhhhhhhh 5 years ago. Happy Birthday.
Dedicated to Sgt. Howard Bruckner 1950 - 1969. KIA LONG KHANH.

But we were boys, and boys will be boys, and so they will. To us, everything was dangerous, but what of that? Had we not been made to live forever?

Thanks for your kind wishes and thoughts guys.
They said that I wouldn't make it to 21 because of my antics as a young fella but 21 + 21 + 12 doesn't = 21.
At 54, the old head still sparks, the muscles tell a story after a big day but still feelin' dangerous  ;D

Mick don't worry about any one telling you won't make a certain age, in my sqdn there was a guy, a cockney, that said I wouldn't make 23 because of motorcycles, booze, etc. so every day on my birth day I yell God Bless you Jimmy Sykes no matter where you are and I if I win the lottery I'll post it on every news paper in the English speaking world. Happy Birth day.

Thanks for your kind wishes Bill.
As time goes by, there's nothing better than to sit down with the young fellas and tell 'em how good it was back in our time and watch the disbelief on their faces.
It's a good way to get 'em up and motivated to use their head and their hands and have a go at something.
I reckon that we were all tear arses when we were a lot younger and that's one of the reasons that we're still here.
If I had my time again, nothing would change and I'd do it all again for sure.
My poor old mum would have another fit.  ;D

No Mick I was offered a partial sponsorship on a 350 Ducati at Willow Springs in Southern California and chance to work on p51 mustangs in South America and one night in a bar in California a gorgeous Blondie chatted me up ( I knew her, but didn't remember her ) and I chickened out figuring my body was going to be damaged some how, in all three cases, now going one for 71 my body probably wouldn't hurt any more than it does now if I'd jumped in, so I would change a few things, if I went back to those halcyon days of yesteryear.

Hey Mick - just saw this post so happy 54th. I'm one year ahead of you and it just keeps getting better IMO. Fast bikes, fast cars and, er, well........a not so fast woman, but all good fun. ;D
Just love taking the old cb out - the smile per mile factor is unbeatable, and helps keep me young.

Where is you? I'm in SA.

G'Day Peter,
Thanks for your birthday wishes mate.
I live in Darwin, about 25kms out in the rural area on 5 acres. (Howard Springs)
From Port Pirie originally and moved to Adelaide in 1973 and then up here to Darwin in 1981.
It's a good place here for the kids to grow up and they love to go out in the bush camping and fishing and mud crabbing.
It's the humidity here in the Wet Season that takes it's toll as time goes on but then the Dry Season makes up for it.
Mick.

Thanks Spanner.
It is a vast country but a small world in it's own way especially when people on the other side of the globe know someone who   lived somewhere close by.
The Stuart Highway is sealed all of the way through now from North to South and back in the early '80's I did a couple of trips in my trusty old panel van on the dirt track.
The red dirt and dust just went through everything. It was like talcum powder.
We had duck tape around the door and window seals and that stuff got in through everywhere.
By the time we arrived at Port Augusta in the mid north of South Australia, our hair and skin was red.
I remember the old Pioneer tape player playing rock 'n roll music on No.10 most of the way so that we couldn't hear the corrugations shaking the van the bits.
