Freakin Drunk drivers
« on: March 18, 2010, 08:20:41 PM »
Today I'm out riding after work, enjoying our beautiful weather. Pick up my wife and take her on one of her first rides. I get a few mins from the house on a low traffic road, and there is an older Toyota pickup stopped in the opposite lane. As I blow past him, it looks like he was sleeping on the steering wheel.....
He was right on the backside of a turn, so I went ahead a little bit, flipped around, and came back to check on him. He slurrs that he thinks he ran out of gas.  I park the bike, and me and the wife push him onto the shoulder (after reminding him to put it into neutral)
I could smell the alcohol on him through my helmet.

We get him over to the shoulder, I turn on his emergency lights, and we head down the road to the nearest gas station and call the cops.
Seriously. Was driving in that state necessary???

thank god he was stopped. too many good friends have been killed by drunk drivers.

Should have let the air out of his tires to boot, just to make sure.

I hate drunk drivers and hope they all rot in hell. There is no excuse. Many states now have programs for free rides if you are too drunk to drive.

Should have hidden his keys. No way he could find them in that state.

x2!!

i know too many friends with DUI's and i tell them if they ever get one, that i will no bail them out or pick them up.  it'll be a wasted call, so don't bother!  and i have no sympathy for people driving under the influence.  i've arrived home once and thinking i was fine, and upon locking the door thought to myself, MAN i shouldn't have drove!!  that was the first and LAST time that's happened.  i value my life and those around me too much to do #$%* like that.  that's why i'm ALWAYS the DD for friends no matter the night or location...

Next time #$%* like that goes down...

Snake the keys away from him/her somehow.
Remember the license plate # and as much info as possible.
Have your cell phone handy and wait with him until the cops get there.

Never ever give a retard like that a chance to get back on the road in that condition!

Actually, I hear all the states have that program now.  Free one way trip to the county lock up!  ;)

2 years ago, I was almost run off the road by a drunk girl.  Managed to follow her without getting killed while she swerved across 2 lanes and onto the grass median for 5 miles until she FOR SOME REASON pulled over.  I immediately pulled over about 200 yards past her car, ran back to the car, and yanked the keys out of the ignition while another guy who pulled over called the cops.  I felt extra happy to go home alive that night.

Not necesarily.  I came upon a car sitting at a light in the middle of 3 lanes of traffic and just sat there after the light had changed.  I was behind him waiting and waiting and I couldn't get around him either.  Someone was gonna rear-end us eventually.  I turned on the emergency lights (I'm a volunteer) and got out to check on the guy.  He was passed out, the car running, IN GEAR with his foot holding the brake.  This guy is OUT!  I call the cops and they send an ambulance (which got there before the cops did).  In the mean time, I opened up the passenger door and put the car in park, turned off the radio which was blasting at about 95db, switched off the engine and took the keys.  Two minutes later while watching the ambulance pull up, I hear the car start again.  This guy found a spare key in his wallet and was trying to leave!  I asked him what he was doing, and he said he had to get home.  The ambulance guys quick grabbed the wheel chocks from their rig and chocked his car just in case.
He was arrested for DUI, and I got $100 for turning him in!

Don't know if that's still going on, I think it was a private enterprise that was sponsoring it.  Maybe MADD or something like that.
