Hi everyone

I am working out the electronics on my bike for the minimum amount of CCA and amp hours for a battery for my cafe bike.  All the electronics will be stashed in the hump of my bike.  I have ditched the kickstart so the bike will be electrical start only.  Other electrical modifications include the Hondaman digital ignition and a Oregon regulator/rectifier.  I have also converted all of the turn signals to LED along along with idiot lights for neutral and oil pressure.  CBR hand controls will be replacing the OEM controls.  One thing to note is that the CBR hand controls kill the headlight during starting, thus running more power to the starter.  I am sticking with the stock starting solenoid.

I am wanting to know what you think the smallest battery would work is.  I plan on running a relay on the stock headlight (so at least I can be seen at night).  There will be two relay for both high and low beams.  The headlight will be a 7inch emgo chrome light (should be computability with the factory blub.  The stoplight will also be a custom collection of LEDs.  The idea was to minimize electrical draw and maximize spark output for a cleaner burn as well as running the smallest battery possible.

I have run across this battery http://www.ebattonline.com/index.html and would like to know if this is going to provide enough cranking amps to get my bike going.  I also don't want a bike that is going to die if it idles for more than 10 minutes.  I do intend to ride this bike and part of the move to solid state electronics was due to reliability.  Most of the harness is going to be reworked with new wire and connectors to maximize current flow.

My other battery choice is http://www.batteriesplus.com/product/32757-XTAX7A--BS-Xtreme-Permaseal-Battery/558-CC/4419-Motorcycle-Batteries/136220-Honda/CB-Super-Four.aspx

any other suggestions?  I would like to get this wrapped up as I am planning to get the bike back together in the next few weeks.  Thanks in advance for any help you guys can give me.

I would contact some of the A123 sellers on ebay, one of them offered to build me an 8 cell A123 4.6Ah battery built constructed and shipped out of china for ~$60-80. I think I am going to try and get a 12 cell battery on my CB350F.

link or contact info?  Based on what I have read about 123 they don't like to be overcharged at all.  They get really hot and can exploded.  Plus I plan having the battery under the seat.  I would prefer not to have things explode under my uhm, stuff.

I have heard and read the exact opposite about A123 batteries.  Is it just the A123 cells that get too hot or is the issue with LiFEPo4 batteries?

Basically, your mods have reduced the load on your charging system. The major draw on the battery is the electric starter; that's where the CCA comes in. It stays basically the same. To be safe, run the same amp/hour rating as stock....

Thanks for the info - I think the smaller battery in my box will work - Any idea what the stock CCA of the factory battery is?  I have search for a while and can't seem to find it.

thanks again in advance.

Sorry wingman, I only have first hand experience with CB750s: they use a 14ahr battery, I think.(I'm running kick-start only) True AGM batteries tend to be smaller than "wet-cell" batteries, for the same CCA rating....

Yuasa Sells 4 models of 12 AH batteries originally intended for the CB350F  Among these models the CCA ranges from about 110 to 210.

Darn -  I was worried about that.  The battery that fits in my box is a 90cca - I wonder if the headlight kill while starting will make up the difference.  I guess I can always get the battery and hook up just the starter to see if it can crank the engine.  The guy who built my battery box swears that the battery will crank and fire an xs650 - which also has two less cylinders.

It is my understanding that the coils don't require a ton of power to charge.  Is this correct?

If You can't fix it with a hammer, You've got an electrical problem.
