Like the title says, I am just wondering what the benefits of a stressed member frame would be over a full cradle frame. I know that the extra weight of the lower bars is one, but what else? I would think that with the full cradle, you could get more regidity in the frame as well as reduce the stress on the motor.

That leads me to another question.... how does a CB750 motor stand up to the task of being a stressed member? this motor was never designed to be in that type of geometry. I know that some of the racing greats used stressed member frames. but how well did the motor hold up to it? did they leak like a sieve due to the mating surfaces being stressed?

Just some questions that i have floating around in my head as i ponder how I want to build my frame for my CB750 street/strip/track bike.

The CB750 can very well be used as a stress member, look at the EGLI and MARTIN frames. They were one of the best steering chassis.

Better sorry for failing then for the lack of trying.

No problem, a lot of these bikes were used on the streets.
