Locking handlebar on CB550F
« on: September 27, 2010, 10:06:57 AM »
So for a while i have been trying to figure out how to lock my handlebars on my 75 CB550F. I couldn't figure out till the other day i saw a lock on the bottom of the tree and i put my key in and it fit but i couldnt turn it, it was a littel rusty. So if you guys could look at the picture and tell me if this is what that is for or if goes to something else thanks again  ;D

inject it with some WD40, and try it tomorrow  ;D
as you gently turn your key, slowly rotate your bars.
i think it needs to find the groove to let the key turn.
(at least thats the way mine operates.) ;)
There's a slide cover for mine, similar to the seat latch.

Did you insert the right key? My bike has different keys: one is for ignition and seat lock. The other for the steering lock

My 75 K has to have the forks at full lock for the key lock pin to engage.

My key for ignition will also open the seat, but it will NOT unlock the steering lock. That's what the other key is for. I assume your bike, like mine, came with two different keys.

The F model has the key between the gauges. And that lock also works to lock the forks if you turn it far enough past OFF.
The lock pokes out a thick pin to engage the fork stem detents.

This assumes you actually have an F model, and not a K model that you are calling an F.
The stem plate will have an F in the serial number if is a genuine F model.
