I just got my order of the big POR15 kit to strip and reline momma's tank.  What are y'all using to plug the petcock hole and screw holes?

Also, what are y'all doing with the gas cap when y'all shake the tank around?  I am sure it is closed (maybe not) but won't all that stuff damage the cap and end up lining the cap too?

I know greenjeans had done this recently and he lives somewhat close to me.  Maybe you still have what you used I can borrow or let me know what you got to do this and where?

I used two bolts and a vacuum cap pushed over a bolt.

for the petcock hole I use a bolt with rubber wrapped around as a gasket and wedge it in. for the top I always take the cap off cuz it usually needs help, too. if so a plastic ketchup/comdiment cup is the same size and I just kind of push it in tight to make a seal. but it will crack easy, so you push from the top edges.

if you leave your cap on just use layers of blue tape tight over it or a plastic bag or something then shut it tight.

I also closed the cap over a plastic bag. I taped over the paint also.

I bought a toilet bulb, you know the thing that drops into the hole at the bottom of the tank at the end of the chain? It fits nicely on most sizes of filler holes since it's a bit beveled and had a flat ridge on the edge. Push it in till you are flat on the ridge then just tape it in place. $1.70 and reusable for many other things like the clean out part before you coat it. Won't get eaten by The Works because it's meant to be used with stuff like that.

You will want to make sure that your petcock and the in tank filter (if you have one) will still fit if some of the coating gets on the inside of the down tube that the petcock attaches to. That could create a problem.

I saw that someone had plugged the petcock holes with wooden dowels screwed in tightly.

Thanks for all the suggestions y'all!  There are some great ideas here.

Cant do that tank though, momma's bike is a K model and that tank is an F model.  Oh, and she would kill me if I changed the color.

Hopefully this thread will get noticed when someone searches to find these great ideas!

I use a freeze plug in place of my gas cap.  Here's (one of) my tank cleaning misadventures: http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=45724.0

That freeze plug looks great and easy.  I wonder how the rubber would hold up to the POR-STRIP.
