Thanks to those who cared enough to relay their sentiments.

I don't know how much I'm going to be contributing anymore.  As I am returning to an old passion of flying airplanes, and building / flying RC models.

I just feel my time is better spent on that, than bickering/arguing with/cajoling certain individuals on this forum.
It seems like most don't like the blunt, to the point, factual style, anyway, as it has nothing to do with popular style, du-jour.  And, if a post looks sorta like learning/schooling, it detracts from the enjoyment of the frivolous banter many come here to participate in.  (I don't really pretend to understand the real dynamic, so that's just an extrapolated guess, that doesn't mean anything.)  So, you just gotta throw the nerdy guy out of the clique so the status quo doesn't get messed up, and what is cool becomes threatened/tainted.

I recall my aircraft mechanic once asked me why I didn't become a teacher.  I expect now I know why that would never have worked out.  I try too hard, I think.
Knowledge is not perceived as valuable unless the individual gaining has "paid" for it in some way.  I believe most humans live by this creed, and why humans have such a difficult time with advancement.

Thanks for the lessons, people!

just so you know, I appreciate your advice and don't mind being told I'm a dumbass or I did something wrong. factual is good, honest is good. you gotta tell someone when they have a booger on their face. hope you'll still be around once in a while.

Well, so long, Lloyd.  I have learned quite a bit from you over the years, and I appreciate it.  I fully understand why you will be better served by pursuing your own interests rather than being "Mr. Spock" around here.  I wish you lots of fun in your aeronautical pursuits.  Besides, I think in over 10,000 posts, you have probably covered just about every aspect of the SOHC4 motorcycle that exists.  Now it is time for the newbies to use the search button!

Good luck, and don't be a stranger.

Have a blast with the planes (both kinds).  I took some flying lessons a ways back and would love to pick it up again.

Hope to hear from you more here in the future.

It has been a long time since I don't read TT posts anymore. His scientifical approach seems well founded, and it definitely makes him win every controversy if only because most people won't bother in wasting his time trying to win discussions over the internet and spending their time looking for figures to support their point and convince people they don't know at all.

I find many of his posts plain boring, sorry for going against the grain. I come here to have a good time and learn things about old bikes, not always in that specific order, and if I can help somebody with my experience, much better.

I for one prefer the advice given by many other members, who had proven skilled enough to give sound advice, but without the superiority complex. Their posts are more entertaining to read, more easy to understand, and given in the way of "friend to a friend" instead of "teacher to pupil".

There is many people who appreciate TT style and wisdom, and if only for that, his contributions are an asset to the forum. Then it is up to everybody to decide whether it is worth reading or not. I'm also one of those who think you should let somebody know he has a booger in his face, but there are many ways to do it, and in my opinion, the best one is to do it privately and let the guy get away unembarrassed.

I hope I am not counted as one of those that pushed TT away  :'(  I really appreciated the time and effort he put into the stock airbox thread and I learned a ton. I went with pods anyway but not after giving it considerable thought and also with a better understanding of the limitations they will have (I did some mods to the bike that made the stock box less feasible, it wasn't a looks thing I swear!)  When I asked TT about the stock box and why it was designed the way it was I did so letting him know that I was seriously leaning toward pods. He freely spent his time and gave of his knowledge and I really appreciated. I guess what I'm trying to say is that even though I didn't put the stock air system on the bike, it wasn't because I didn't believe or value TT's info.

Have fun with your planes TT, but I hope you'll drop on by now and then!

No, you weren't.  I'm happy to try and help those who seek better understanding.

Spent most of yesterday flying and playing in the wind with my new electric plane.  Quite enjoyable.

Hmm...
I've a sister and family that lives in College Station.  I guess that's more mid Mid-Texas, though.

Are you far enough south that reflective outerwear (a la space blanket material) is recommended?    ;D

My Niece-in-law is a native Texan.  She claims Texas heat is not a problem at all, as you only have to be in it between house and vehicle and then vehicle to building.  Don't even have to break a sweat.
She's a fun person.   ;D

Hmmnn, just the other week I thought that the forum was getting a much "calmer" and industrious place. No-ones chucked a strop or walked off in ages. Maybe everyones' too busy bashing spanners(wrenches) to get sensitive. I spoke too soon.
I've come to the conclusion that if you're getting too het up about what people are posting here then you're not busy enough on your bike.
For cripe's sake there's approx 5000 of us here............for sure someone's gonna p*ss you off sooner or later. Live with it.
And for the rest of you; get back to work! Spring's just around the corner and I want to hear stories of all the trips and miles you ate up over the summer on your bikes. ;) ;)

I was in Austin, 77/78, and I loved it. What a fantastic city...incredible music scene, friendly people, decent art scene, plenty of nature outside the city...Hippie Hollow  ;). I arrived there in the fall of '77, by the time August '78 showed up I was DONE! It was one of the notorious heat waves where it was over 100ยบ for something like a month straight. I left in the 3rd week of it and never looked back though I'd love to visit Austin again sometime. And yes, when i wasn't working construction...which was weekends, my girlfriend and I looked for air conditioned places to hang out. Don't believe what they say about ...It's not the heat it's the humidity. After a certain point it is about the heat.

Glad to see that you're still checking in Lloyd, hope you're enjoying life away from the insanity here. ;)

Lloyd, every time I've checked in and lurked a bit, yours were the comments I sought out.  As I see it, you have a role as educator on this forum that is shared by only a few others.  It has nothing to do with agreement or disagreement.  You are one of the most informative educators here.  I always felt blessed when I benefitted from your knowledge and your thorough presentation.

Glad to see you at least check in.  Have fun with those planes.  Or, as we say in my line of work, 'fly safe'!   ;D
