Neutral Switch / Electrical Problem
« on: March 23, 2010, 07:48:38 PM »
OK, here's the issue. When my clutch switch is disconnected, my neutral light
will work, when my clutch switch is connected, no neutral light. Any ideas?
BTW I have replaced all fuses, both large & small rectifiers and all other lights,
signals, horn, etc. work fine.

This is driving me crazy.

(Sorry, it's a 75 CB550 F)

I have a CB550K and the neutral switch stays on all the time. I've just renamed it my voltmeter. If its faint then I know I'm in trouble.

Guys, do a search for big-jim's thread on starter issues; it gets into the clutch switch/neutral light issues...

That switch lives in close proximity to the chain and all the goo it flins off, and over time it can get pretty nasty and possibly cause misalignment.  Mine was acting erratic until I took it off, cleaned it, and filed it ever so slightly with a nail file.  Works perfect now.

OK...so here's what the problem was. First off, what I neglected to put into my original post
is that I switched out all my Neutral/High Beam/Signal/Oil Lights with LED's. So from reading
other posts regarding this issue, turns out that I had to reverse the connections on this light.
Meaning, hook up my positive lead from the LED to the Neg. connector on the bike and my
Neg. lead on the LED to the neutral light connector on the bike. I'm assuming this is because
of the diode on the bike? And the second problem was that I needed to ground the neutral light
to the Black connector which is shared by the oil pressure switch.

Thanks Everybody!

Hey thanks campbmic. As for the clip-ons....I bought them off ebay, ($65) I had to drill
out the holes in the bars for my wires to go through and through the end caps for my
wires to exit. I was surprised that I didn't have to shorten the wires or anything, just
ran them through the bars and into the back of the headlight like normal.

elquenada ... here's a couple of pics of the tach bracket I made before i cleaned it up and
painted it, I just used 1/16" sheet metal.

ugh...that surface rust on my fork tubes is killing me. Anyone know a good way of getting rid of it?
I have some new fork top nuts coming to replace these pitted ones I currently have.
