Severe Rust Removal - can't beat the price
« on: January 19, 2006, 06:54:12 PM »
My other sickness is Mopars. On my local board, a really interesting thread was posted showing rust removal with molasses. I have heard of this before, but this one has before and after pictures.

Have a look:

The site acan be a little slow. If this link doesn't get you there, go to MassMopar.net, tech forums.

My cousin has a mollasses bath (actually a 44 gallon drum) behind his workshop, he just dumps rusty parts in it for anything up to a couple of weeks, and they come out rust free, and sweet smelling too! He partly restored a 1915 Indian Power Plus about 20 years ago, that frame was seriously rusted, but after a dunking in the tank, it came out really clean. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Says I am not allowed to view, they must know I am a Chevy guy.  Now the acronym makes sense.  Mostly Old Parts And Rust.  He-he, at least it's not a Ford!

The site has been troublesome tonight.

You Chevy guys can say what you want, have you seen the Muscle Car price guide in, I think, this months Motor Trend. '70 'Cuda Hemi, driveable or restorable condition: $2-2,500,000. Further proof that Mercedes are for people who can't afford a Dodge.

actually coke was done on mythbusters and did very little. I suppose if left for a long time, it might.

I have only 1 thing to say about dodge.  NEON aka headlight eater, aka bad tranny, aka bad door seals. Should we go to the ram 1500 with its "hemi" wannabe?

I dont mind the OLD pre 73 dodges but 95% of anything after that has totally stunk....Still better than fords though!

I don't know what mythbusters experience was, but my first automotive experiene was my father demonstarting how Coke would remove rust from chrome bumpers and corrosion from battery terminals.

Jeez Bryanj, your hearing aid batteries are failing, too?   :D :D
UNCLE HENRY SAID

I say this with a Camaro IROC in my driveway, purchased new in 88. (This car totally cured me of any automotive brand loyalty I may have ever had.)  I believe the longest period of time it has remained fully functional was 2 months.  33,000 original miles on it.  Really fun car to drive...when it works.  I gave up, in disgust.  Badly needs paint, too.  I'm thinking, lemon yellow...

I evaluate cars on a design by design basis, now.

Actually, the Myth Busters experience was just that. Coke cleaned up the rusty bumper much better than the "chrome cleaner". When I was a young army recruit in the 1970's, we were told not to leave our SLR (combat rifle) gas plugs in coke overnight to remove the carbon after a day on the rifle range, but of course we did, and it worked alright, they'd be as clean as a whistle in the morning! Cheers, Terry. ;D

In basic we were told not to take our M-14's into the shower to clean them after a day in the field.. of course we did. The only fools that got caught were the ones who didn't bother to break them down to dry them. The dead giveaway was rust under the stock.  ;D
