Topic: CB400F Rear Tires 100/90-18 or 110/90-18 is there a big difference?

Getting ready to pull the trigger on some new tires for my CB400F with stock rims, and from the info I have gathered from other threads It looks like I should go with a 90/90-18 front and a 100/90-18 rear to achieve the best handling/performance results.  Since I like canyon carving this seems to make the most sense however, I wanted to know if going with a 110/90-18 rear would sacrifice the handling/performance enough to make a difference when leaned over in a turn.  Also, I am not sure which size rear tube I should go with (3.5/4.00x18 or 3.25/3.5/4.10x18) or if it even makes a difference?

use whatever the factory recomended, they carefully match tire size to rim size for thebest possible handling. putting a wide tire on the stock rim can make for some pretty hairy handling.

If those are your 2 choices, I bet they are the same tube.  If the box says 3.25/3.5/4.10 on it, it means that it will work in any of those tires and that gives you an idea of how approximate inner tube sizing can to be. As far as the tire size, you'd be best with the skinnier tire if it closer to stock... upgrade the wheel if you really want more rubber.

I have one 400F with the stock sizes and one with slightly bigger. (with wider alloy rims.)
The stocker has much lighter steering. Unless you are scraping mufflers and footpegs daily I would go with the stock size. Not sure a 110 offers any more sticky but it does turn in differently. My .02 for what its worth.

I do like to get over on the edge of the tires which is why I had thought about going with the 110/90-18 for more of a contact patch.  I just wasn’t sure if using this size on a stock rim would have a negative effect on the bikes handling.  Right now I am leaning towards the 100/90-18 because it seems to be the recommended tire size…I just hope it doesn’t get too twitchy while leaned over in the turns.

I do not think it matters that much between the two.  It all comes down to what tires you are looking for.  The 110s have more options the 100s have far fewer.

Personally I will probably go with 110s not because they are better, but because my tire options are much greater.
