Remove starter wire from solenoid, remove chain cover.

You may be able to remove starter without taking dyno cover off, but you need it off to put starter back in.

Remove 2 bolts on starter cover, then I think 2 bolts hold the starter down. With them out wriggle starter towards center of engine, when it gets real loose, it should tilt up.. then push the starter wire through the passage in the case, and lift starter out..

You can take one of those starter bolts you remove and screw it in the cover hole into that starter to use as a handle to lift it up. At least I do that on my K models. Not sure what the F is like.

But be sure not to run the engine unless you remove the dyno-cover and get the starter gear and shim out of there first...

Hi Rob.I don't think you need dyno cover off to reinstall starter motor.Starter reduction gear will remain in place with starter out,as will starter gear setting plate[washer]. When reinstalling motor,if engagement of reduction gear hangs up,turn engine in reverse, this will start reduction gear turning and while pushing starter into place, engagement should occur.    Rock On

As city boy said, it may stay in place. I was thinking more, get the starter out and dealt with, then get a gasket an pull cover off..

but the shaft the reduction sits in, is inside a boss on both sides, so it probaly canr fall down..
