CB 750 K5 won't start
« on: April 02, 2010, 12:00:40 PM »
Hi everybody,

I just put rebuilt, bench-tuned carbs back on, hooked up the fuel tank, replaced spark plugs (I have spark) and charged the battery, but the engine won't start. I get an occasional growl when I use the kick start, but it won't catch. I know there's fuel in the carbs (checked the outlet screws). A friend gave me some ether to try to help start. Any other suggestions about potential problems, a start-up procedure that I might be missing, or something that needs further testing?

Thanks,

Harper

choke valves locked - make sure they are moving up an down? Remove bowls, take out both jets from each carb and check for blockage? Use compressed air - or maybe fishing nylon - NOT wire. Set airscrew to base of say 1 turn out on each carb? Throttle cable(s) not working - or even connected? Left out one or all jets?
These are all things I did - that stopped mine from running after I did my first fiddle with my carbs.
Good luck.

Did you mess with any wiring? Maybe kill switch went bad or blown fuse.
