Anyone here ever stuck one on your cb550 with a stock setup?(But obviously on a "16 rim?)

Here's a pic of a 5.00H16 assembly on my 550F cafe-project (which makes it roughly 130/90 in your money....). I took that wheel/hub straight off a 650RC03 Chopper and it leaves a clearance of about 0.4 in to the (stock) swingarm....

I know most guys run a 130 when doing a 16'' rear wheel.
I believe a 140 might have rubbing/bottom out issues...

carpy has used a 16" x 4" HD rim on a couple of cb750 bikes he's done, which would allow for a 140/90 tire, but i'm not sure whether that would fit in a cb550 swingarm. my 130/90/16 (on a 3.5" x 16" rim) does seem to have plenty of room from the swingarm, but i'd worry about having too close of a clearance. i had a slightly oversized tire on my cb350, and at one point the swingarm or wheel started giving in curves (i think), resulting eventually in a blowout from the sidewall rubbing the chain or the brake stay.

I'm going down to my shop now, though. I'll measure what kind of clearance i have with my setup.

  Hey rt,

That's a mean looking rear wheel ya got there and about the tire. What brand is it? I like it.  Bill

Hey Bill,

...looks a bit beefier than stock, doesn't it? The tyre is a Continental K112, 5.00-16 69H (Tube Type, but you might as well get a tubeless version...).
