Muffler Recommendation?
« on: April 05, 2010, 10:20:36 AM »
Can anyone recommend an aftermarket muffler that will fit over the exhaust outlet on a 1975 cb550f? Of course the original muffler was not on the bike when I got it. It had a Kerker K3 mounted, but not correctly. I would like one that slips right over the exhaust. I think its a 2 1/4 inch diameter or something close to that. Pics and links would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Mac makes a stock replacement.  Visit the Mac website or go to e-bay and search for "CB500 muffler."  It doesn't come up if you search for "CB 550 muffler."

I've been looking for a Kerker or something similar to go on my stock CB550F 4 into 1 too.  Hard to find.

use an automotive straight through resonator or hot dog if you want, reduce the outlet to about 35mm.

Here is a straight-thru fiberglass packed version of a 2 1/2" slip-on.  The actual body is 3", and it it 1 1/2" through the core.  I make them from stainless tube, and I roll the core from perforated stainless sheet.  Everything is GTAW (Tig) welded.  PM me if you are interested.

I wish you could make a factory style direct bolt-on, slip-on replacement for the CB350 four. I think a lot of owners would buy them. If the price was right.

There is currently a cb550f stock header and muffler on eBay.  The guy has listed it a few times with no takers.  Could buy it now for $275.00
